How to achieve a goal by brute determination.....

....sometimes you have to forget the textbooks and run on instinct! The following has nothing to do with music, but I think the principle is valid in any area of endeavour.

In my incredibly-well-organized :) workshop today, I needed a nut as part of a modification to my welding mask......it kept dropping down when I was in the thick of it, adding to frustration and possible danger.

No nut to be seen in my bit-box (this is the place where everything gets thrown into when there's no other place for it). So I kept poking around.....

An hour later, I was still poking around in the bit-box. I had decided that the solution must be in there.........

Nuts are generally hexagonal.....

Nothing.

I was determined to find the solution in the bit-box.

Aha....!

Here's a threaded thingy, but it's round, with a little head. I don't want the head.....

So I cut the head off.....

Made myself a ROUND nut. It isn't to be used in a stressed application, so I can tighten it up just using a pair of pliers.

The point is....

I was looking for a six-sided object. There wasn't one. But I kept on looking, and thinking, and persevering.

In the end, I got what I wanted. Even though it didn't match the mental image of my search object.

Ring any bells, in the pursuit of musical excellence?

:)

Just gotta keep going..........tolerating the frustrations......being patient.......looking in the nooks and crannies...........

If something isn't working for you, try a different view.

But you MUST believe, always, that the solution is never too far away.

Usually, it's right under your nose :).

Paul,

I agree wholeheartedly. The internet makes a ton of information available. But nothing replaces determination and imagination; Two very important elements of success!
