Members polishpaul Posted May 26, 2011 Members Posted May 26, 2011 ....sometimes you have to forget the textbooks and run on instinct! The following has nothing to do with music, but I think the principle is valid in any area of endeavour. In my incredibly-well-organized workshop today, I needed a nut as part of a modification to my welding mask......it kept dropping down when I was in the thick of it, adding to frustration and possible danger. No nut to be seen in my bit-box (this is the place where everything gets thrown into when there's no other place for it). So I kept poking around..... An hour later, I was still poking around in the bit-box. I had decided that the solution must be in there......... Nuts are generally hexagonal..... Nothing. I was determined to find the solution in the bit-box. Aha....! Here's a threaded thingy, but it's round, with a little head. I don't want the head..... So I cut the head off..... Made myself a ROUND nut. It isn't to be used in a stressed application, so I can tighten it up just using a pair of pliers. The point is.... I was looking for a six-sided object. There wasn't one. But I kept on looking, and thinking, and persevering. In the end, I got what I wanted. Even though it didn't match the mental image of my search object. Ring any bells, in the pursuit of musical excellence? Just gotta keep going..........tolerating the frustrations......being patient.......looking in the nooks and crannies........... If something isn't working for you, try a different view. But you MUST believe, always, that the solution is never too far away. Usually, it's right under your nose .
