I posted this in a couple of other places, but thought you guys might want to play too! :)

I put this short BT together with Addictive Drums and Guitar Rig 4..the chords are E9 to G9 and then you have a A5/C5/D5 section, so E mixo to G mixo to Amin pentatonic is one option if anyone here needed guidance!

My take to get us started, just an honest effort to play what I was hearing and it appears that I pretty much stuck to the tonalities described above.

We do a lot of theory and analysis here which is great and much appreciated, but sometimes, you just have to PLAY!....Let's hear you! :rawk:

Cool BT Mo! Gonna give it a shot.

Made sure I avoided listening to the killer(i am sure) takes so far...in GJ.

Lemme see..

Nice!..I liked the long held notes...the whole thing had a very cool angular feel too. It didn't sound like you hit the changes much, but the feel you got negated that for me.
:thu:

Thanks Mo.

I am gonna give it another shot and play more to the changes. I had intended to.

So, my abandoned plan was to emphasize the F and G in G9, since these tones aren't in E9. Then Am of course, and hit the F# when on the D chord.

What is your approach? I haven't listened to yours or any in GJ yet for obvious reasons.:o

Thanks

I just played..:idk:..I try and do these with as little thinking as possible :D..listening back it sounds like I played pretty safe using the E mixo and G mixo scales and good ol' A minor pent for the heavier part. Nothing fancy. :o

Just went back and listened to yours Mo, nice face-melting!

That was great!!..you sounded right at home playing over that!..I  what you did at the end when just the bass and drums were going, very cool! :thu:

..and thanks! :)

Thanks for the nice comments! I've been working on that little pattern as an alternate picking/string skipping exercise, just waiting for a chance to use it in a musical way. It seemed to fit.

What is your approach

Pretty much the same as Mosiddiqi. I just played along until I found things I liked and then tried to sort the bits into something melodic and somewhat interesting. I liked having a more emphasized, solo-less chorus part so I did that first. It also broke the rest of the song into two neat 8 bar solos and an outtro. I just alternated E natural minor and G mixo for the solos, but the part I like the best are the chromatic runs in the first solo, which kind of breaks out of sticking with any particular scale.

Hey thanks! I was going to add that since it's LL that a brief description of how you approach this would be great.

Mo!!!! Have you posted a vid? I would love to see you shredding this up. A pic is worth 1K words.

Yeah, definitely - my favorite part of these backing track threads (apart from the music, of course) is hearing how people approached their takes. I always find that fascinating.

Great work guys!

Mo - great liquid take as usual man. Love your playing, always enjoy it. If I had to comment I would say I would love to hear some more variance in your touch here and there. Same with the vibrato... a little looser in areas and dude you'd be da shiz!

benzem - I can't find your link other than in Mo's reply... and that link doesn't seem to work. Maybe I am just special.

Bydo - I LOVED the thematic approaches. The ending was a very cool turn both melodically and with the short delay. Really nice approach. As a critique I would say you aren't right in the pocket in spots. But I am being picky. I just know it is always good to leave these type efforts with something to work on.

I'll take a go if I can manage to find some time. Been stupidly busy lately with all the distractions summer brings.

Thanks Jeremy!..yeah, always good to get some constructive feedback. I'm not the most dynamic player when improvising..I tend to beat the crap out of the guitar in these scenarios . Vibrato is a tough one to solve for me...just gotta keep at it!.

look forward to your take! :thu:

Thanks, Jeremy. I totally agree there are some parts that aren't very tight - I definitely hear them too. I only had an hour to work on it from first listen to upload and my wife kept interrupting. :) Benzem's link didn't work for me, either. Looking forward to hearing your take if you find the time!

I had to put her down:cry:

Like in my post to Mo, I had planned on playing with the changes, which I didn't:facepalm:

This is a good exercise for me as I usually improvise with one key in mind. And maybe changing with the 2nd section, but NOT back and forth, as with the quick E9/G9 changes.

Nice track Mo. This was some helpful practice for me. The takes from all of you guys were great.

Here is my take. I think I did better on this one than the last one I tried but there are some obvious rough spots. I had a really tough time on the chorus...couldnt figure out what to do so just noodled in Am pentatonic:facepalm:

Some good ideas there Tommy! :thu:..I liked what you did around the 0.34-40 mark and also end part. Sounds like you need to work on building stronger melodic phrases that play to the chords a bit more..work on landing on strong chord tones...more practise as usual :)

Good job Tommy Gun. There were some nice ideas in there (I liked the 'riffy' part around 0:20, the Hendrixy run around 0:40 and the way you entered the ending section around 1:01). My 2c (for what it's worth) - I bet it would sound a lot more polished if you added some nice vibrato to the notes you held out.

Thanks guys...those are good tips and definitely on my list.

I think my vibrato is really weak and too subtle even though I'm trying to add some vibrato to the notes.
