Members polishpaul Posted August 5, 2011 Members Posted August 5, 2011 Two versions of a song, one of which I used to bop around to in close proximity to girls doing the same thing. As I'm 55, it shouldn't be hard to guess which. Had it been the other.....well that would have been rather sad . [video=youtube;rfqSYOWaEt0] and.... I've just noticed the Slaughter's version was 1979 - I thought it was much later. So I might have got away with it.... Oh well.........................
Members gennation Posted August 5, 2011 Members Posted August 5, 2011 I did this with the song Night & Day. I made a CD with 16-20 versions, and listened to it over and over. I have notes about the cool approaches each person/group took on the song. As well, the instrumentation was all over the place too. I think I posted the things I found in a thread last week or the week before. By learning the stuff it showed me the individual or signature sounds of many of the greats. The leader of the big band I was in last year is a chart-aholic. He has over 5000 chart arrangements, full arrangements for the band. Our rehearsal were reading rehearsal because he didn't like playing the same tunes over and over, but more importantly, he wants to hear EVERY single chart played through at least once! Being big band and jazz in general there were a LOT of different arrangements for the same tunes.
Members gennation Posted August 5, 2011 Members Posted August 5, 2011 Actually, I threw all my finding regarding Night and Day here at my forum: http://mikedodge.freeforums.org/some-personal-analysis-of-the-song-night-and-day-t59.html
