Members Flintc Posted September 8, 2011 Members Posted September 8, 2011 Working lately on some common tone chord progressions. It would be really nice to be able to post chord charts, but I'll do my best under the circumstances. The common tone is on the B string. To start slowly: Bm11 E - x B - 5 G - 7 D - 7 A - x E - 7 E7flat5 E - x B - 5 G - 7 D - 6 A - x E - 6 Amaj7 E - x B - 5 G - 6 D - 6 A - x E - 5 This progression can be extended quite a ways and sound very good. So here's the full progression. It starts the same as above, and continues. The bass note mostly moves down half a step at a time. Bm11 E - x B - 5 G - 7 D - 7 A - x E - 7 E7flat5 E - x B - 5 G - 7 D - 6 A - x E - 6 Amaj7 E - x B - 5 G - 6 D - 6 A - x E - 5 G#m7#5 E - x B - 5 G - 4 D - 4 A = x E - 4 G13 E - x B - 5 G - 4 D - 3 A - x E - 3 F#7 E - x B - 5 G - 3 D - 2 A - 4 E - 2 B11 (aka A/B) E - x B - 5 G - 6 D - 7 A - x E - 7 E6 E - x B - 5 G - 6 D - 6 A - 7 E - x Is anyone interested in this kind of thing? I can work up lots of them.
Members c+t in b Posted September 8, 2011 Members Posted September 8, 2011 it is a good technique but the people here should really come up with their own to benefit from it. a lot of the technique comes from knowing all of your inversions for specific voicings
Members jonfinn Posted September 8, 2011 Members Posted September 8, 2011 These are cool! Actually I like the format you used because it's pretty clear. The program Finale is pretty good w/ chord charts etc. If you using a mac, you can create the file using finale, then use the "print to .pdf" feature. Another thing you could do is maybe post a video of you playing the chords? Just an idea. Thanks! Jon
Members JonnyPac Posted September 9, 2011 Members Posted September 9, 2011 I've been jamming over | Cmaj9 | Abmaj7#11 | Bbmaj13 | Ebmaj7#11 Dbmaj7#11 | the G is the common tone I dig. I even tried it with a low G in the bass throughout. Super fun modal interchange changes.
Members Flintc Posted September 9, 2011 Author Members Posted September 9, 2011 Here's another, also putting G as the common tone: Em7E - xB - 8G - 7D - 9A - 7E - x Eflat7E - xB - 8G - 6D - 8A - 6E - x D11E - xB - 8G - 5D - 7A - 5E - x Dflat9#11E - 3B - 4G - 4D - 3A - 4E - x Cmaj7E - 3B - 5G - 4D - 5A - 3E - x These are kind of fun, and often useful.
Members stomias Posted September 9, 2011 Members Posted September 9, 2011 Used to do this all the time. Helps to know A LOT of chord voicings....Just some at random.... Db7b9 767X4X A13 77121110X C6/9 787778 Gmaj7 774X53 Eb+9 77656X Abmin7 744465 Ab13+5 7791011X Dmaj13 77911X10 F#min11 75XX42 Gmaj9 777710X and yes I can play all these chords on the fly. The F#min11, Dmaj13, and A13 are ball busters
