Members niikbia Posted March 3, 2012 Members Posted March 3, 2012 Hello, Now analyze the central part of the video where I use sweep picking and tapping technique. 0.44 arpegios in Emaj t e|-16-12-----------------------------12-16-19---| b|-------12-------------------------12------------| g|----------13--------------------13--------------| d|-------------14---------------14----------------| a|----------------14----------14------------------| e|------------------16-12-16---------------------| arpegios in F#maj t e|-18-14-----------------------------14-18-21---| b|-------14-------------------------14------------| g|----------15--------------------15--------------| d|-------------16---------------16----------------| a|----------------16----------16------------------| e|------------------18-14-18---------------------| What do you thinks? Members 1001gear Posted March 3, 2012 Members Posted March 3, 2012 Eh... Still the same blah rhythm. The beginning had somewhat more feel - still tacky and over decorated but at least you had time to savor those three dozen or so moments. Then the lesson section - totally vulgar. It's like cutting to a fap session from some hurried kissing. You shred guys make ONE point. You can do those things real fast. Unfortunately not one of you knows what the music is. Like I said you operate the guitar well. What's your point?
Members c+t in b Posted March 3, 2012 Members Posted March 3, 2012 meh. you're just tapping the third on a barre chord arpeggio. doubt you'll win any competition with this Also this tune, for the most part is all simple diatonic chords, which becomes boring after a while since the same basic scale is being played over all of it, rather than approaching chord tones and adding chromaticism

Like I said you operate the guitar well. What's your point? Usually when someone complains about shred it's because either the shredding truly is kind of lame or the person can't shred and probably also plays with less feel and dynamics than who's being complained about. Because you're generalizing all shred in such a way, I'm going to assume the latter (and have little doubt about being correct). But he did ask what people thought. IMO the solo was fine but the sweeps a bit simple in comparison to many others posted on youtube. Thanks for posting, Niikbia, and good luck.
Members 1001gear Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 Perhaps the metaphor exceeds your higher brain function? Or maybe just your musical awareness?
Members wrongnote85 Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 cool playing. the best part about this whole thread is the way you introduce it. i know you're from italy and all, but 'hello, now analyze this' is hilarious.
Members 1001gear Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 Like I said, The OP is a very good Axe Arperator. Further, he is more than welcome to defend/detail this thread. He started it. What I see is mostly spamming. 'This is a world best guitar context, How I doing?' These kinds of things tend to devolve into a mutant mass of flame agents and/or circle -jerkons. Be that as it may, I see the genre as a cheap thrills niche. Scales and Arps real fast. Excruciatingly pedantic. Free world ... maybe, certainly NOT the stuff you wanna waste the kids on.
Members Yngtchie Blacksteen Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 While I do find these threads rather pointless, since the OP doesn't appear to interact with the people replying, I still don't see the need to launch attacks on everyone who chooses to play 'shred'. These sweeping statements are quickly becoming as formulaic as the playing being scrutinized.
Members 1001gear Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 For me sitting by is a lie. Says MUSIC all over this place. Nuthin about recon debrief/ RnR.
Members rushtallica Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 For me sitting by is a lie. Says MUSIC all over this place. Nuthin about recon debrief/ RnR. Everyone's got a right to an opinion, but along with some of the shredders who come across as speedy robots there are also many different players who can do a lot within the genre as well as in others. There are also those who feel bluesy rock musicians are all SRV or Hendrix wannabe's. There are those who fit the stereotypes, but there are also plenty who find their own identites and add elements from other genres to mix things up.
Members 1001gear Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 You bring up extraneous concepts as argument. Sorta like shred. Stevie and Jimi had lots of misses. Horrible stuff. So what. They didn't even post here. My point - since the genre is in fact, music, is *teach good music*.
Members Krank'N Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 Stevie and Jimi had lots of misses. Horrible stuff. So what. They didn't even post here. Whew yeah they did. Saw a video of the Band of gypsys stuff and JH was stoned and out of tune -terrible stuff. Supposedly SRV had some real bad shows until he quit drugs too. I dont hate sweeps and taps any more than I hate bends or vibrato BUT too much of a good thing gets old in a hurry. I dont like listening to auctioneers for very long either!
Members Tommy Gun Posted March 11, 2012 Members Posted March 11, 2012 I realize the language barrier, but I lol'd at "Hello,Now analyze the central part of the video..." Anyways, I thought it was pretty good and I liked it. Maybe a bit too much of the "stock lick" stuff though.
Members jeremy_green Posted March 12, 2012 Members Posted March 12, 2012 I quite like shred and fast playing in general ... But this wasn't particularly good playing. I found the pocket quite weak (overshot the one a few times) and vibrato pretty much non existent. Some nice speed on the arps... But not particularly interesting in how they were used. Just the usual top to bottom, bottom to top thing. Whammy bar gurgle seemed out of place and seemed like it was added just to do it. A quite good player overall ... But didn't grab me
Members gennation Posted March 12, 2012 Members Posted March 12, 2012 So, did anyone master the sweep?
Members 1001gear Posted March 12, 2012 Members Posted March 12, 2012 Pardon my outtalineness but you mean the sweep drill? If you ask me you'd learn more picking at any chord note by note. By the time you get fast you'll know what the music is.

Members Yngtchie Blacksteen Posted March 12, 2012 Members Posted March 12, 2012 I'm still wondering why the thing in the video and the accompanying tab don't match.
Members gennation Posted March 12, 2012 Members Posted March 12, 2012 I think the tab is of a snippet somewhere in the video.
