Members polishpaul Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 Holophonics - the recordings are done with microphones placed in a dummy human head, and the results are spectacular. This is nothing new....they've been floating around the web for a long while. The spatial precision is beyond description....outside of your head! You'll need to sit up straight with headphones on and your eyes closed to get the most from listening. The one named "barbershop" is totally awesome. I've listened to it a few times in a darkened room late at night, and I still find it way too real for comfort. I know there's nobody else in the room....but.... I put my favorite four up at my filesharing account - play on-site or download them and amaze people at parties (all four in mp3 format): https://www.box.com/s/5be94dc2a9961193fefc This link takes you to the inventor's website and more audio samples (all the samples do load and play, Quicktime required): http://www.acousticintegrity.com/acousticintegrity/Sound_Samples/Sound_Samples.html

Members 1001gear Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 Yeah from the 70s at least. Let's make this an audio thread. ? What's SACD and is it worth anything?
Members FatJeff Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 SACD is (was) a recording format that was introduced in the 90s. It was supposed to offer "super audio" quality (that's the "SA" in the name. The problem is that it's not compatible with regular CD players, so if you buy a SACD disc you can't play it on your regular CD player. I learned this the hard way by accidentally purchasing SACD discs and then not being able to play them.
Members FatJeff Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 Pretty cool recordings. On the Barbershop one I started looking around when it first started thinking someone had entered the room I was listening in.
Members polishpaul Posted May 22, 2012 Author Members Posted May 22, 2012 Pretty cool recordings. On the Barbershop one I started looking around when it first started thinking someone had entered the room I was listening in. Exactly! My main motivation for posting about this. Unfortuantely, after extensive searching, I sadly report that there is nothing on the web that comes close to the sheer brilliance of the barbershop recording. It is surreal, spooky, scary and awesome all at the same time. Few things are. Well.... ....later .
Members polishpaul Posted May 23, 2012 Author Members Posted May 23, 2012 I finally found some guitars in 3D....cool tune and a great recording: My thanks to guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his band, Luna Negra.
