Just wanted to share that I have purchased a used AxeFx Standard with a FCB1010 used.

First observation is the FCB1010 needs to be programmed to work with the AxeFx to work right and is very techy to get going. I gave up a few times and still haven't got the Wah pedal working buuttt.

I have to say the AxeFx has been the unit I've been looking for.

Fx's are superb, the emulations are top notch and sound just great direct into a console. I haven't tried with my amp yet but will soon.

Finally something I can use.

Traded my Line 6 X3Live and Variax +$200 for this and have not missed a beat.

:)

I need to try one. I can't just do this "order site unseen".

The VG is my current wonder processor anyway. Like I really need another one. Lol.

They have a return policy. If you're not happy with it, you can return it for a refund within... I think 14 days. They sell returned units off cheaper as B-stock.

I wasn't aware of that at all. Thanks for the tip!

The FCB 1010 can be tricky at first but if you download one of the 3rd party GUI programs people use to program the thing it's pretty easy. There is a yahoo user group for the pedal you should check out if you haven't already.

With something as versatile as the AXE I would upgrade your Fcb with the UnO chip. This gives it much more flexibility. Normally each button selects a particular preset within the unit (which sends all the pre-selected midi info in one shot) but with the UnO upgrade you can program either the upper or lower row of buttons to turn effects on or off while remaining within a single preset. There is a separate yahoo group for this version.

SOMA: I spent some time with a VG, and from what I could tell, it forced me to model the guitar I had plugged in, as 1 out of say, 5 options (a couple different types of strats, a les paul i think, etc.). I didn't like having to do this.

Is that how it us, or did I miss an option in the VG somewhere that would have allowed me to "bypass" having to model my plugged-in guitar as something else?

Thanks!

You can actually plug a standard non-hex guitar into a VG99 but let me look at mine tonight to see what "non-modeled" options are available.

Maybe what's known as a VARI GUITAR model would be best for some generic tone.

Since most of my instruments have humbucking pickups, when I'm running my GK3 hex pickup thru the 99 for normal guitar sounds I model Pauls, 335s that kind of thing and go from there.

But basically for meat and potatoes rock: guitar -distortion - a little delay and I'm good.
