Sorry Im pretty new to the forums and have some questions about the Axe FX

What are the main differences between the Ultra and the Standard? I've looked at the wiki and see there are a few midi fx and more memory but is there anyone who has played both that can tell me if they have a different sound?

How do I hook one up to my Amp? Im not too Keen on using a complicated rack system and have never really used anything but fx pedals in the past.

Is there a place where I can try one before I can buy? Im pretty remote here but would love to check it out before commiting its a pretty big purchase.

Is buying used a better idea then going new?

Im sure these may have been answered before but after searching the forum i couldnt find those specific questions

thanks so much for your time

The amp and drive models themselves are exactly the same between the two units. The I/O is also exactly the same.

Where it differs is the CPU, memory, and certain effects. The Ultra has a few FX that the Standard doesn't, the pitch shifting is supposedly a bit better, the reverb block I think has a few parameters that that the Standard doesn't.

If you want to just run the Axe for the preamp sounds and FX with your amp, you'd run the Axe's output into your amp's FX return. Or just run it with a rack poweramp. If you wanted to use your amp's preamp as well, you'd have to run the 4 cable method.

The only US dealer is Tone Merchants. Otherwise you buy from Fractal direct. They have a 14 day (I think) return policy, so if you don't like it, return it within 14 days (or whatever it is) and you'll get a refund.

If you want more FX in a preset... i,e, if you want to have dual amps, and a chorus, phaser, flanger, and delay that you can turn on or off without leaving the preset, you'll want the Ultra :)
