Members Anderton Posted May 25, 2010 Members Posted May 25, 2010 Yup, got one here Very impressed so far. Hardware DSP (no latency), can do re-amping, really nice vocal effects. Downside: Can't put user patches in the order you want. [Edit: Actually, I've been told you can...I'm checking into this.] But it's really quite cool, especially for the bucks. If you have questions, I have answers...
Members WRGKMC Posted May 26, 2010 Members Posted May 26, 2010 Boss has had many great boxes that are underrated. I still use a couple of their rack preaps I got ages ago that have speaker emulation. I just plug in an effects unit into the dual effects sends and I can dial up anything I want. The newer floorboards all have USB jacks for recording and or Digital lines out for direct connects thet can connect to an interface in stereo. The one you're speaking about, http://www.cakewalk.com/products/v-studio/default.aspx?Prod=vs-20 is the big boone now. Something that connects to the computer like an external controller and interacts with the software for recording. Great for home recording and building songs track by track. I'm waiting for one that can be used by an entire band before I consider getting into something like that though. They make the monitors for jamming together with inputs for all the instruments, but this would be for recording all seperate tracks. It would be cool to have processors that will handel the bass player, Vocals, Guitars, and have inputs for drums. Then be able to dial up tones for all the separate instruments like you would with a single guitar. Having modeling for the bass to get all your different cab and bass tones. The vocalost can dial up his specific compression, reverb, echos, autotune etc. The drummer could either plug in midi drum triggers and dial up different set types or have maybe 4~5 inputs for mics to record. Maybe make the whole rig a wireless connect to the Daw as well so you could set it in the middel of the room and not trip over wires. You could choose to record dry, wet, or in between. This would save having to buy multiple units for all the musicians to record, or having to build songs track by track. They could all plug in without having to worry about running mics all over, room and volume issues, and all the other stuff involved in recording live backing tracks. The option of also being to record with amps, mics etc live would need to be there to be usefull as well. Kind of a wish list of features, but they're so close to comeing out with something like this I cant see it not happening soon. They have hard disk recorders, External controllers, low end all in one effects, and all the software for recording. they're just totally missing the markets heartbeat. What a band would want is not a setup that requires them to learn all the ins and outs of audio recording. They want to be able to plugin, dial up theri tone and hit a record button and get great results. Thats it. Having to swap 20 different cables, swapping boxes, adjusting gain levels Setting up mics, and everything else is alot of work. Having those normal recording options would need to be there for creativity and recording actual amps and all. One do it all box that allows all these kinds of options and isnt overly expensive, may make someone a whole lot of cash. I see it being the next big thing on the scene. Oh, and the interface would need to be square and have the knobs for say the bass player on one side, guitarist (s) on another, Vocalsit on another, and drummer on the other. this way you can sit around a table and jam, tweak you own adjustments up, adjust your own headphones etc.
Members Anderton Posted May 28, 2010 Author Members Posted May 28, 2010 WRGKMC, sounds to me like you're describing the JamHub line's flagship model, which while it doesn't integrate into a computer in a seamless way, does include provisions for recording. Jon Chappell is doing a Pro Review on it.
