Members poserp
Has anyone here done this? Many synths these days have audio inputs, a few even have hi-z jacks. I'm thinking in terms of running the guitar audio signal through the synth engine (to apply filters, am and fm modulation, envelopes, etc); the midi output from the guitar would trigger notes (or note on events), apply pitch bending, and so on. The purpose would be to create interesting effects and to treat the audio output of the guitar as an oscillator in its own right. For example, use the guitar audio as an oscillator hard sync source, with the guitar audio as master and, say, a square wave as slave. Another would be doing am with the guitar audio and a sawtooth oscillator. This might be interesting with string bending, since the midi pitch won't perfectly follow the guitar's pitch so the resulting sidebands would change as you bent notes. Members girevik
Let us know how you get on with it. I believe Craig Anderton wrote about using MIDI Note Number, MIDI Velocity, MIDI Pitch Bend, etc. values coming out of MIDI guitar to modulate parameters on an effects device processing the real guitar audio....about 20 years ago! But not many seem to have followed his lead. You may still have a chance to be an innovator in this area.
