What is this sound?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am still pretty new to keyboards and I was just wondering if you could help me out with identifying this sound...

Its basically just like a piano kind of sound except softer and with a softer attack... like a piano or percussive intrument with the high end rolled off and a soft attack but I am not sure if it is something you could easily synthesize or if its a family of sounds that you can get easily as nice samples. If you guys get what I'm talking about maybe you could point me in the right direction... I really like this family of sounds.

If you listen to this song, the sound I am talking about comes in panned hard right around 2:05. It's a remix by the raging brothers of a song by a great guitarist named Justin King.

So Close.mp3

The same kind of sound plays a prominent role in a keane song although I dont know the name of the song. It seems pretty common. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like your basic electric piano sound to me. You'll find it and many variations in most romplers like the Yamaha Motif.

Cool, thanks guys. I figured it would be an electric piano sound but for some reason the e piano patches on my getto soundbank that came with my keyboard sound nothing like it... probably because its ghetto I'm guessing.

Any idea what kind of software I would need to get a good sound of that going? All I really have is the software that came with my x board 49, sonar, and some random plug ins for sonar that don't have any sounds as far as I know.

For software, get the Mr Ray 2.2 and Mr Ray 73 from www.soundfonts.it

They use physical modelling, so no samples what so ever. I like them both a lot.

Best.
