Desktop Evolver question

Recommended Posts

It couldn't be worse than a QY10, could it?

I've recently been obsessed with hardware sequencers ever since I got bored/hell froze over and I decided to spend some quality time with my Virus manual and actually use the multi-mode. Been coming up with some fun stuff involving the Virus and the SP404 using my laptop as the sequencer.

I'm not a big fan of bringing out the laptop for live work since I use it at the office as well.

Combined that with my everlasting GAS for an Evolver and I came up with my latest justification for mortgaging my children's future.

So, would I be able to devote a couple of tracks on the sequencer of the Evolver desktop to sequencing patterns out of the Virus and SP404, rhythm stuff, of course?

And also, are the sequences saved as their own presets or is each sequence tied to a specific patch?

Hey, I've already mortgaged MY childrens' future and they aren't even conceived yet...

I think that the evolver can only send on one channel at a time, so you might be out of luck sequencing multiple synths/timbres with just the evo. And yes, the sequences are tied to their patches. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on either of these points, I'm going on memory.

I believe that's correct.

IIRC, on the desktop Evo there's a parameter called Lock Sequence that lets you keep the current sequence playng while you change programs. I've never used it, though...

Ah yes, I forgot about lock sequence...I think that is mainly to let you keep one sequence rolling while you change the timbre, and also allows you to copy/paste sequences between patches. It won't quite let you store the sequences independantly from the patches, though.

And another thought on the multitimbral sequencing thing...with some tricky keyrange programming, you could still use the 4 sequences on the evolver to play 4 different patches or synths, as long as you minded your ranges.

Same with me. No children yet. She Who Must Be Obeyed has a favorite saying: "If you buy that you'd better be able to play it with your left hand 'cos the only thing you'll be humping will be your right.""

Okay, I'm paraphrasing her, but when she shoots me that look, I get the meaning...

Thanks for the info, Program Insect and dB. It's more Monday GAS than anything else. Since I've started playing out with a Virus and a Steinberger through an amp modeller I've been obsessed with cramming as much into my used suitcase, uhh, I mean, alternatively procured hard case, as possible. It's a stupid idea but I have fun with it.

yes, you can. I'm not sure whether you will enjoy entering midi notes by their note value number, though..

Doesn't the evo have the step-sequence-note-program via external MIDI input option?
