synthmaker is, by all accounts, insanely powerful and flexible; it apparently is frequently confused with synthedit, which has a bad reputation in windoze circles - possibly because of a glut of boilerplate, really ugly 3-osc synths made with it.

Neat. It's a graphical RAD tool for VSTs. Might be good to break into the scene.

 

I think anyone looking to write VSTs professionally should still study programming in the requisite compiled languages (e.g C++), as well as data structures, algorithm analysis, mathematics, etc.
