OT - ample amp poppin'

Hi guys,

Just a quick question for those with technical knowledge above mine (which can't be hard)..

my new beater amp (an old Peavey Bandit 'Solo Series' - i.e the 'teal striper') pops like a mofo when I switch it off....is there a common cause of this type of thing? Could it be the wiring in my house? I'm stumped.

Any info much appreciated.

Some amps just do that. I guess the solution would be to increase the decoupling capacitance early in the circuit to see if you can keep that part running when the output starts to loose the supply but that still might not do it. Some amplifiers have a relay in line with the speaker output that kicks in when you turn them on so when you turn them off the relay opens and no noise comes out.

do you have the reverb on when that happens?

with certain amps, if you kill the power with reverb engaged (especially if its turned up) youll get a loud pop, but turn the reverb off first - then its gone!

im not saying yours fits here but ive seen it happen alot
