high-impedance and low-impedance

For regular guitar use, get the high impedance version (Ernie Ball: 250K, Boss: "H"). It will work with the guitar plugged straight into it, as well as later in the chain or in the fx loop.

The low impedance version (Ernie Ball: 25K, Boss "L") is only to be used after an active/buffered pedal (Boss or similar), in the loop or with keyboards or active/low impedance signals. With a regular (non-active pu) guitar plugged straight into it, you will lose quite a bit of signal.

Thus, if you want a pedal that will work in most situations, get the high impedance/250K/"H" version.
