Slap-back or Reverb?

Which is more useful? I heard reverb often gets washed out in live situations where delay doesn't. I am not sure what I am really looking for, I really only want to add a bit of space to my guitar sound. I find very short delays are what I enjoy, but nothing overly bright. Though I am not sure if reverb would do the same sort of thing, add space. which really what I want to do add a bit of dimension to my sound. any light someone can shed on this whole subject would be nice. thanks.

Delay. Reverb is great if you are in your basement but you really don't need it in a big room or with certain 3-d sounding amps (like the univalve). Little slap back delay is always nice and enhances many a guitar sound. I use a DLS echo tap which is very tape like in sound and has a tap tempo on it to make it very easy to synch up.
