Members Bunny Manfurr
My band just hit the studio to finish up our first full-length album, "When In Rome...Do As The Lions" (you can hear a couple of advance tracks in my sig below. Before I hit the studio I go on a big pedal buying spree to have some new sounds to play with when tracking. So besides my regular rig (which has a lot of Analogman, Keeley and FoxRox stuff in it) I picked up the following and received some very pleasant surprises from them... Electro Harmonix P.O.G.: OK...I like this pedal because it does what it claims to be able to do...make your guitar sound like an organ or a 12 string guitar. Many pedals claim to make your guitar sound like something it's not, but few deliver (can you say Danelectro Sitar Swami ). I found all kinds of great uses for this pedal...slap a little Analogman clone chorus after it or the Vibe from my FoxRox CC-2 and you get a real nice organ simulation. I used it on some leads, rhythm work, some ambient pads...it's pretty impressive. I didn't use the 12-string setting for recording, but I have yet to hear another harmonizer type pedal cop a real 12-string sound like the POG can. Digitech EX-7 Expression Factory: This pedal got a fair amount of use. It's probably one of the most handy studio tools to come around in a long time. I used the Whammy, wah, space station, univibe and leslie sounds quite a bit...in fact, I found I used the Whammy more than I thought. With the 2 octave up setting I got some cool glissandos and pitch bend effects, but what I found the most interesting were the chord squalls I could get using the two 8va up setting. I've already written some new songs around it for the next album. Very cool lo-fi sound. Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb: I was in the market for either the Digitech Digiverb or the Line 6 Verbzilla, but I just couldn't seal the deal because of the cost since I don't use reverb that much. I liked the clips I heard of the Holy Grail and the Holier Grail on the EH website. Anyway, I went into Guitar Center to pick up some strings for the session...the sales guy and I got to talking (he asked why I needed so many strings) and when he heard that we just got signed and we were recording our debut, he offered to sell me the Holy Grail for $60 new. Well, I figured I couldn't turn it down...and I'm glad I didn't. Both the engineer and I were mighty impressed with the sound...and it's so damn easy to use. I even used the Flurb setting on a track and I was extremely pleased with the results. It's the second best $60 I have ever spent (the first being a mispriced new Ibanez AD-9 analog delay reissue...$59.99 ) Z-Vex Vexter Series Fuzz Factory: I used to have an original FF and I liked it a lot. I sold it to a pal a few years ago when I needed the money. He never got tired of it so I figured it was about time to get a new noise fuzz. I bought an Effector 13 TBD, but I wasn't that happy with it so I sold it and picked up the Vexter Series Fuzz Factory. What a great value. I wish Zach would make more pedals like this (no paint job, battery adapter, LED, etc.). I went nuts with the Fuzz Factory on one track where we have this ambient feedback through out the song...I controlled the stability knob with my foot and ran it into the Holy Grail...crazy cool sounds! Electro Harmonix English Muffin: Yet another EH pedal that does what it says it will do and it does it well. I think it sounds better with a smaller amp but I got great results with my Twin and Plexi too...sounded best with my modded Blues Jr. I was able to get a wide variety of sounds from Vox to JCM-800. The tone controls work well and you can go from edgie clean to full on chunk by working the volume and gain controls. Excellent sounding tube OD/Distortion. Electro Harmonix Black Finger Compressor: Great sounding compressor. Very different sound from my Analogman Bi-Comp or Keeley compressor. If you're looking for a compressor with a little tube warmth, this thing's got you covered. I liked using it on clean arpeggios and on punchy clean chords. Very nice. Electro Harmonix Little Big Muff: This came out the same day I got my NYC Big Muff back from being rehoused...so yeah...I had to have it anyway. I feel that between this, my rehoused NYC Big Muff and my ICBM fuzz, I have all my Big Muff bases covered. I used a ton of other stuff, but these are some of the newer things that I picked up just to use on the fly when tracking overdubs that impressed me the most with their sound quality and ease of use. If you haven't already done so, check 'em out!

We're playing with our friends Oslo...which features Gabriel McNair from No Doubt (they don't like to mention that though since they sound a lot more like Interpol than they do No Doubt).I kinda know where they're coming from. Our singer used to be the drummer for The Counting Crows, but we don't mention it since we sound nothing like them. He also used to sing for Laundry which was Tim Alexander from Primus' band. The show is part of our tour. We're also doing several dates with Michael Graves (post Danzig frontman for The Misfits), we've got a show with Agent Orange and our welcome home/CD release is with Mondo Generator (Nick Oliveri from Queens Of The Stone Age and Kyuss). It's going to be a pretty fun tour.

Thanks. I can't wait for the album to come out. We just need to mix the last six tracks and master them before sending them off to the label for pressing. It'll be cutting it close to have them ready to go by the first day of the tour, but it's looking good...as long as there's no screw ups.

There's plenty of it on there. The only other guitars I used were used for overdubs only...a Les Paul, my '61 SG reissue and a Strat.I changed my amps up a bit for the second half of the recording. I'm much happier with my amp rig these days...Marshall Plexi and 4x12 cab and Twin Reverb reissue in stereo.I still have my JCM-800 4104 combo, but I didn't end up using it for the second half of the recording. I also used my modded Blues Jr. for some tracks.

I have no breast implants...and all my cleans are PURE Tele. I even have a TAH approved maple fretboard. Trut so pure. I just happen to be able to wrangle a lot of other tones out of my Tele that other Tele players can't (at least that's what I've been told at shows). You just need to have imagine-uity. They're pretty similar...The NYC is a little (just a little) less defined in the lower mids...not as much as the Russian Muff. The difference is really entering cork sniffing territory, but there is, indeed, a subtle difference. By the way...your PM inbox is full.

So you're saying that the LBM still has the big wall of fuzz tone, from the NYC, but slightly tighter? I'd like that!
