Members ZJD
Sorry I just got a little excited. I don't think anyone quit can do it like Jimi did it. Although Stevie Ray did a very nice job back when he was still alive.

Members endo23
Yeah, I used to think that too-- especially after watching JIMI PLAYS BERKELEY, which is just awe-inspiring-- but you know what, there are some equally mind-boggling players out there, RIGHT NOW, playing shows in small clubs, and you're missing them! So go out and see what's happening. Jimi will never be topped-- he broke too much ground-- but electric guitar continues to evolve and cats like Nels Cline and Bill Frisell and Adrian Belew are doing things Jimi never imagined possible. OMG, that dude needs to spend a little less money on his hairdo and a lot more on lessons. Whew... nothing like a lil' YouTube to make me feel good about my own {censored}ty playing. Yeah I definetly need to get out more. More small clubs and what not.
Members Wilbo26
Hendrix probably had as many horrible shows as he did great ones, especially early on in his career. Even later on sometimes he was clearly too wasted to play his songs well. The Berkley show is probably his best one, but I hated the filming on the DVD. A lot of the time they're zoomed in on his face and you can't see him playing, and at one point they even shook the camera in a really amateurish attempt to add special effects to the video. They should have just filmed him from the front the entire time and that would have mesmerized any audience viewing it at the time, or now. Members endo23
True, but research and trusted friends can REALLY aid you in seeing the good stuff. Or hey, even boards like these! As far as Jimi, yeah, I've heard some terrible shows but also some totally electrifying ones. Like anyone, he had good nights and bad nights. Wild side note: he got paid $100,000 a gig during the height of his career, and that was in '69 dollars!!!!! No small clubs for THAT guy.

I have a ton of Hendrix bootlegs, and you really must cherry pick them. Some times his playing was pure {censored}. Like a lot of musicians from that era, the drugs really influenced them, and many times, not for the better. But when he was on, he was very good. Members strangedogs
I was lucky enough to see Hendrix 2 times - the first time was in 67 or 68 in Detroit - he rocked... the second time was in 1970 at the Atlanta Pop Festival - it was the 4th of July - at night with fireworks going off and he actually sucked - but he was still JIMI and that's all we cared about at the time (besides we were all too high to care)... Members tremolo531
Hendrix was human, so he was bound to have some bad shows. The music makes up for it.
