Members Speeddemon
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/demosound/demosound.php I must say, as an Engl owner, they've captured the signature smooth chunkyness of Engls quite well. Members ouch1234
maybe this means they will be releasing it finally.
Members Speeddemon
I thought a lot of people were anxious about this pedal?
Members Kewlpack
Honestly, their demo for this unit doesn't sound too great. Listen to the G7.1ut demo right below it - much better sounding. Of course, they just selected whatever patches in both cases - but the G7 demo does a lot more to "sell me"... Anyway... it will be nice when it gets to the streets and folks have a chance to dial in good stuff (hopefully)!
Members runbeerrun
They could show the versatility of being able to assign 4 parameters to each expression pedal.

I'm thinking of picking up a G7 myself, for small gigs and stuff, but I'd miss the FX-Loop and the Engl preamp.
Members Kewlpack
Yeah at that point it's gonna just come down to personal preference. I was thinking to myself, "Well, I believe I can get that tone and that tone from the MFXs I already have..." I guess I was hoping for a little more "wow factor" in the demo. Probably due to the typical hype. FWIW, mp3 demos aren't the most accurate way to tell how the unit will work for you. You gotta go play through it and get a real sense of how it works and sounds. Very true, and I'm hoping that their doubled sampling frequency, combined with 24bit AD/DA conversion, will give it a better dynamic response. I used to have a Boss GT-3 3 years ago, and that one had 20bit conversion+44.1kHz sf, and it showed. Aliasing sounds, and other digital artifacts. I'm curious how the competition will respond to these new Zoom mfx's.
Members 101010
I got the G2.1u for Christmas and was very impressed with the sound. I loved it. I even thought some of the presets sounded really good. When they put the demo sounds for the G2 on the Zoom website, I could not believe it. It was as if they were intentionally trying to turn people off of their product - the demo sounds sucked!. Shortly after I got the G2, they released the G7.1ut. So, I sent back the G2 and got the G7. My very first impression of the G7 was a little bit of a let down. The initial sounds that came out were not as impressive as the G2. So, first thing I did was crank the tube all the way up... Very disappointing. However, the G7 is more tweekable than the G2. After messing around for a while and getting the levels set more appropriately for my gear, it really sounded great. Also, after being initially turned off by the tube, I left it alone for a while and never used it. After a while, I revisited the tube and started using it more subtly. eventually I decided that the tube feature was a very nice addition to the G7. So, I was very happy with my G7. Then Zoom released the demo song for the G7. This was better than the G2 demos but I still couldn't believe they would put something out that bad to showcase their product! Then, Zoom introduced the G9.2tt on their website... I sent back the G7 to wait (and wait, and wait...) for the G9. Now I hear this G9 demo that (to me) sounds close to awful. Based on my previous experience, I can only assume (and hope) that the real thing is more impressive.
Members Karma1
I just listened to the demos for the G9 and I have to agree that they are not that impressive. However as a satisified owner of a G2.1u, I'm sure that the G9 is capable of some incredible sounds. I know that with a bit of tweaking I've been able to get some really excellent sounds out of my G2, so I have no doubt that the G9 will be amazing after a bit of editing and dialing in. But is is a shame that they didn't put more "wow factor" into the demos as Kewlpack suggested.
Members Marty_mash
I also agree, not a good demo list. Zoom's marketing scheme seems odd to say the least over these pedals. Especially considering how good the G2 & G7 are!! I have the G7, and it has really grown on me. The sounds that can be created are sooo good, but as always, time to tweak is required. Does anyone know when the G9 is coming out? (Zoom seem to have really messed up the launch of this - the zoom website says it was released in January!!) Also, G2/G7 users, do you know of any user/fan websites that have user submitted patches etc? It would be cool to try the sounds others have made, as the potential of these units hasn't been reflected in the presets, and hence the demo sounds on the site. Members ArKay
Here in Germany it won't be out until Mid/End April, guess that goes for all of Europe. They're presenting it at the MusikMesse in Frankfurt.
Members Speeddemon
I've played the G9 (through headphones, and an ESP LTD Les Paul-ish guitar) on the Frankfurter Musikmesse. I was very impressed, but I only managed to touch the top of the possibilities. The only 'wrong' thing that stood out, was that the Metalzone stompbox-model sounded like there was a half-cocked wah in the signal too. I've owned a Metalzone for almost 8 years, it NEVER sounded like that. The DS-1, Muff etc sounded quite spot-on. The only thing that it could use more, was a seperate parametric EQ section, instead of a mere 6-band EQ. Also, the pre-amp section itself DIDN'T have a EQ! Something my former Boss GT-3 DID have. With the GT-3 you could stack 4 EQ's if you wanted.
Members userpatch
Those demo's where made by a drunk gitarist and a very ill sound engineer............ at least we can't accuse zoom of making the demo's too attractive AHHhh latest info: THE SOUND ENIGINEER IS WORKING for BOSS AND HIS SIX YEAR OLD DAUGTHER IS PLAYING THE GUITAR, so that mystery is solved............ I played the g2 a while ago, and for the price i was very impressed especially the clarity/dynamic response. Far better than most modelers i've played.
