Members woude
Very good! Seriously one of the best pedals I've played. I love the envelope sounds, the phase sounds and even the vibe-ish sounds a lot. Forget about the ehx tubezipper or qtron, this is it! Expression pedal is a must btw. Members BmoreTele
You can get the "Marv" mod that allows you to use the LFO and EF functions at the same time. Plus an up/down envelope switch. and some more. here's a link listing all the mods. http://www.pigtronix.com/tech.htm
Members tremblox
Yeah luv mine too. I got the Marv mod a couple of months ago - a nice addition but the pedal is very versatile without it. I agree that the expression pedal is a must. The EP-1 has replaced a couple of booteek vibes I was using which surprised me - I didn't think it's do that. Certainly the funkiest pedal I own - funkier than a Picture Wah which is saying something It picked up a "resonable" review in one of the UK guitar rags at the end of last year and there were a few things they said that I didn't agree with (they said it sounded hi-fi for example). However it picked up a tremendous review in "Guitarist" about a month later - they loved it. Me too. I've only used it with guitar an dwith no other instrument and/or expernal triggering up to now. tremblox
Members stratmaster48
does the filter do a GOOD auto wah, or is it really "airy" sounding like much of the EHX filters?
Members spoonie g
probably one of the best sounding if not the best sounding phasers I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot, including EH, Moog, etc. Wish I'd kept it.
Members endo23
Since the Pigtronix Doctor is bound to show up on this thread soon, i'd like to pose a question-- Is the phaser on the EP-1 6-stage like my PolyPhase? Curious, because I always hear the two compared but the samples on the website don't really convince me. However, I love my Polyphase and if the EP-1 can really cop its sound, that would interest me...

The way to make the EP-1 sound like a Polyphase is with the MARV mod, which lets both the LFO and Envelope Follower run at the same time... for those of you not in the know, this creates some wonderfully random gurgling as your pick attack (envelope) and the on board oscillator (rotary) are both controlling the sound. The EP-1 is an Envelope Phaser. Everyone seems to think that it is a Phaser/Auto Wah, which it is not. It is a phaser that can be controlled by an LFO (like every other phaser in the world) or an Envelope Follower. When the EP-1 is in Envelope mode, the sweep of the phaser is controlled by your picking dynamics or by whatever audio signal you run into the "trigger" jack. So really it is an "Auto Phase" rather than an Auto Wah. Due to the specific nature of the proprietary, non-linear phase shifting that happens in the EP-1, the resulting sound is plump and juicy. That is why bass players like the EP-1 so much, because you don't loose any low end. In fact, the EP-1 enhances your low end, espaecially in the INVERT mode. I personally find most Envelope Filter pedals to be thin sounding. I hate that. The adjustable resonance also lest you tailor the sound from very subtle to totally in your face. This means that it produces an "auto wah" sound that will exceed all of your expectations. of course, the sound is not "auto wah" in the stricktest of terms. We designed the EP-1 to achieve the {censored}iest, thickest, most versatile envelope sound anyone has ever heard.
Members GorillaLover
that's why I enjoy mine so much... it makes my rhythms sound juicy and thick.. especially if even used with very mild settings.. I just played my first 'gig' with it tonight.. it worked out very well with a borrowed amp
