The Underground are over-rated, or at least over-hyped.

Super sloppy. But damn, what great songs. And the sloppy playing and Lou's bizarre vocal style just {censored}ing works. Yep.

They're a good enough band, but I just don't think that they deserve all that they get. I mean, even Puffy says he's been influenced by them. Avril Lavigne says she's been influenced by them. They're just the popular band to say is awsome. It's like saying Bonham is the greatest drummer of all time because he was in one of the greatest bands of all time. I've never been impressed by Bonham. He's never done anything amazingly radical, and yet he's loved (I tread softly here for the sake of the dead).

The Underground are just over-rated. Doesn't mean they're a bad band (although I can't say that I love them). They just don't deserve what they get, and everybody says they like them because they think it seperates them from the pack, but it doesn't, because everybody wants to be unique.

It's all bull{censored}, really.

Probably, but it just bugs me that every body says they're awsome. How can Puffy and Avril Lavigne say they both grew up on the same music? They like "VU" because they know it's a safe band to like, and they'll get a few nods. True, there are the people who like them, but then there are the fake people.

well, Puffy and Avril can say whatever the hell they want and i can say that i was influenced by Puffy. that has no effect on the actual music.

truth is, the VU is worth their weight in gold if only for their influence. let's compare 'em to, say Joy Division. hate 'em or love 'em, JD were an incredibly influential band and have value if only for that. same with VU. even if the music was sub-par, they're worth the praise if only for their historical impact on David Bowie, Jesus & Mary Chain, Galaxie 500, MBV, Neu!, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Joy Division, Can, the Ramones, etc. etc. etc.
