I'm thinking this isn't how they're intended to sound.

Jack, anyone?

which version?

Jfet stack or the Mosfet one..

I think the jfet one is always colored where the mosfet one isn't??

JFET,

I had a Catalinbread SCP which is (i think) an AMZ mosfet boost clone, this is waaaaaaaaay louder than that.

What is the Tillman JFET boost?

Is it on the GGG site? I didn't see it.

Thanks again.

Did you put C6 in? I find leaving it out quiets it and lowers grit. When I build it I put it switched.

Also, transistors make a big difference. The J201's are louder, and can add more grit. I have used 5457's for a touch less, and mpf-102 for the least output and grit.

Very interesting, i did put C6 in (it's huge too, all i had was a 100V audiophile cap).

If i take it out, do i need to jumper the holes?

I cna't remember which trannys i used but i think it wasn't the 201's (i'll check).

Thanks for the advice!

You can leave off C6 to lower the amount of total gain and it will still have plenty of zing! Schematic is at:

Thanks!

I'm thinking my first change will be to C4 (i think i have 1uF in there) to the "stock" configuration of 3.3uF for a bit less treble.

Does that seem right?

On my drawing the 3.3uF is C2 and making it smaller will roll off some of the bass.... 1uF will not make much difference as it doesn't really change much until you get around 0.1uF or smaller.

The A/B points are pads on the pc board layout that are used for mods.

so dude if i wanted to build a booster. one that could go from super clean to a, lets say as dirty as a tube screamer with the drive set at 9:00. would the jfet or mosfet be better, or maybe a a hybrid? i'm anew by at building, have modded my sd-1 but instead of getting clean i got more dirt but i like it . also not ral good on reading schematics , any web site that can teach me, for free of course.

thanx
