Members Lensrock
So I posted a while back about getting a "Wall of Fuzz" type of sound. I ended up picking up the Euthymia Crucible Si. It wasn't for me, it sounded too muddy with my rig. Also, The Fuzz control was a little goofy in that it had very little fuzz until the last bit of the sweep. So, I need something that sounds HUGE, has good presence, a lot of Fuzz. It would also be nice to have the ability to go from smooth to nasty too. Members AbbeSauniere
What's your rig? I'm suprised it was muddy.
Members ChitownTerror
The classic answer is: The Big Muff, either a clone or the reissue. I also second: Ibanez Standard Fuzz Boss FZ2 Fuzz Factory (with certain settings) EF13 Silver Crank
Members Lensrock
I'm using either a Les Paul or a Tele into a Reverend Hellhound. The problem was, with the eq set so that the fuzz sounded bright enough, without the fuzz the clean was too bright.

I've had Muffs in the past, I'm just looking for something that has the ability to get a little nastier. My favorite Fuzz sound of all time is from King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man, the verse when he just slamming the Cm.
Members AbbeSauniere
I've heard Fripp used a Guild Foxey Lady Fuzz in his early days. Can't say for sure if that's what's on "21st" but it certainly sounds kind of Muff-ish, but a bit tighter. Don't know of any clones of the early Muffs or Foxey Lady's though. Members fusionid
yeah i would think a muff is what ya want. HOw about a fuzz with a fat octave? Choral playing sound freaking thick with those. A la some of the playing the edge does sometimes that sounds like ring modulation.
Members AbbeSauniere
Man, that tone is giving me GAS. Now I want to know what that fuzz is as well!
Members aeonrevolution
If I have a Russian Muff is it worth getting another version? You can see my pedals in my sig...its basically my only pure dirt pedal aside from my two overdrives. I just love me some fuzz though!I wouldn't mind something a bit more fuzzy though...the Russian muff is borderline distortion in my opinion

Isn't that seriously one of the coolest tones ever. Its huge, cutting, fizzy, and warm all at the same time.

I think the Russian Muff is better sounding than the current NYC muff, but lots of people say the older ones sounds very different. So if you picked up a 60s or 70s muff it would sound different. Or maybe a clone is for you; i hear lots about the Euthymia ICBM. Some of the E13 pedals might be up your alley, but I have limited experience with them. Members Lensrock
I know all about Muffs guy, I'm pretty sure thats not what I'm looking for. I've had the Black Russian(my first pedal), NYC Reissue, Sustain Punch Creamy Dreamer(early clone). I need something else to satisfy my fuzz craving. Members fridgebuzz
I think the Boss FZ-2 can get pretty close to the 21st Century Schizoid Man sounds. One sick pedal!

Members wacopacco
you should try the HBE UFO fuzz. It's based on a Foxx Tonemachine i guess, but it's great at that wall-of-fuzz sound. It's also got the upper octave which is cool for freaky stuff. And a vintage/modern switch to go between well, vintage tones and modern industrial tones. Members Seth Carmody
What about the Bee Baa? Bargeconcepts has made an affordable clone. There's even the BB-Jr - that saves ya $ and board space.
Members AbbeSauniere
Some asking around at the Vintage Amps Forum turned up Foxey Lady Fuzz. Seems there were a few versions though. The 1st version being a rehoused/rebranded Mossrite Fuzzrite. 2nd version was made by Electro Harmonix and was basically the E-H Axis Fuzz, a 2 transistor fuzz made until '71(?). 3rd version which debuted in '71(?) was basically a Triangle Muff. Members YourHerodDGC
I really want to try the MJM foxey fuzz. It sounds like a more controllable muff, judging by reviews and clips on the website. But i think people don't realize how versatile a fuzz factory is. Not only does it have a mind of it's own, but you can emulate, and come fairly close to a buncha other useful fuzzes.
Members derek_32999
Seriously, try DA MOAF. Despite its stupid name it is one of the best muffs out there. Also, look into a Skreddy Top Fuel. Both of these cut nicely. DA MOAF is thicker and TF is more dave gilmour cutting lead from late era pink floyd.
Members utterhack
Do we not like the ICBM anymore? It looks as though we've all decided we're now teh ghey for DA MOAF. It's just in the last day or two. These things really turn on a dime.
Members derek_32999
I thought the ICBM sucked hind tit. BTW uhh the ICBM's tones are COMPLETELY different than DA MOAF. ICBM = IC version of big muff = early gilmour. DA MOAF = heavy crushing cutting through wall of noise sound. Then again for only a few bucks more ya can go the skreddy route and get a cooler looking smaller pedal NICE!!! Members StompboxMan
Ya keep saying you want a huge wall of fuzz. So get MrSage's clone of a Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz. I have an original SP. It's the biggest sounding fuzz I've ever played. Here's MrSage's Thread:http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1198715

It's great for later period live Hendrix.I got 5-6 Muff clones......when I think of Fripp, the best Muff I got that gets that, IMO, is the Everman Ultra-Drive. An absolute wall of fuzz , tone control, AND filter control to scoop the sound, plus internal DIP switches for a few different cap values. I got the MJM Foxy Fuzz, ERNIE, ICBM, DAM Ramhead....the Everman IS Fripp
