All,

I need a modeller for the following

1.Straight into a crate powerblock and 4x12 cab.

SO i assume good straight soudn with no cab emulation

2.Straight to desk for when im being lazy with moving gear.

I have tried the xt and it seems to lack low mids on the high gain models.the vox is a bit big to be lugging around.

I am currently using a boss ds-1 and sd-1 into the crate and that sound really good, but cant use these straight to PA.

Whats the GT8 like? can i get a sound like sd-1>ds-1 >jcm800 model straight to the pa ?

im after chunky mid heavy 80s metal soudns(think whitesnake 87)

have spent waay too mutch on toys in the past and need a jack of all trades so i can simply the stuff i have

thanks

Neil

the GT8 is killer! But they all sound better through a tube power amp. Once you get through the learning curve you'll find lots of good stuff.

i personally dont like any modeled pedals but the amp models in the GT8 are the best. special fx, delay/ verb/chorus /compression etc. tweak up the way i like them. It will rock with much mojo:thu:

DIgitech GNX3000:

I am truly loving this pedal. I had a POD XT LIve and then a GT8 but the GNX3000 is awesome.

Zero latency on recording and eay to get tube-like tone. The thing I love is even the factory preset's sound good. I spend more time playing than tweaking. With the GT8 I would spend hours tweaking and not actually get any practice done.

Listen to these short soundclips I made with my GNX3000. Most of these are just using Stock Patches, recorded vis the USB output on GNX3000:

The Vox Tonelab se in my opnion is one of the very best sounding Boards. I considered it many times now. I'm a chorus nut and find that it doesn't have the flexibility in chorus that I like. I know thats pretty picky considering everything it does but thats one of the biggest reasons I went seperate pedals over a full board.

The GT8 is the one I want to spend more time with. Boss in my opnion effect for effect always seem to be a notch above the rest. I really dug into the ME-50 and found it lacking in the chorus area, it had 3 different chorus effects and I tried out the CE-20 and it killed it dead. The CE-20 was the best chorus pedal I have heard right next to it was the Boss CE-5. Another awesome chorus pedal. I was alittle shocked that I couldn't get the tone out of the ME-50 I wanted. The Harmonizer in there is incredible. I love that effect and the ME-50 does it very well.

I wanna try the GT8 and go deeper with it, then try out the ME-50 once again.

the tonelab IS the ultimate tone machine in my opinion.I like ability to have a delay/mod effect with a seperate delay effect. while i agree the effects are not stellar and deep i find them very analog sounding compared to the gt-8 and very warm. The gt-8 is the deepest mfx of the bunch and i had one for 6 months but it is too deep for me and i still felt the amp sounds were sterile and cold in comparison to the tonelab se as well as the digitech gnx3k. I really wanted to like the gt-8 but was suprised to see the amp models are the same on it as on the vg88 v2...which i had and sold a long time ago.

i hope roland warms up their tones and redoes their amp models soon..roland seems to drag out their same rehashed stuff way too long..keyboardwise too..

Is it that Boss made a huge leap regarding fxs in their GT-8 because I had a GT-6 for 3 years and I always felt it was waaaay behind all the other processors in terms of fxs, after trying the tonelab SE, I thought ALL it's effects were better.

My opinion on the modelers are these

V-amp 2-sucks don't waste you time and money.Owned it.

Tonelab. Sounds the warmest and most tube like by far. It even feels a little tube-ish.played it.

Boss gt-8. never played it but it definately has a very cool and handy option with the two amps dual processor thing.

podxtlive. I think with the effects pack it has more effects than the boss and it can have more models with the packs. It sounds great and and i think it might have the most editing capability. I like the AIR. i like that the amp models are based off specific models so you know about what they are supposed to sound like(unlike the gt-8 i think). I love the usb cable. It make recording so simple, it makes computer editing software available, and new firmware downloads available(like the new version3).own it.

GNX 3000. I didn't really lok too much into it. I think the digitech name turned me off, and i'm not sure if it has the usb which i really like since i will be in college this fall and it makes recoding easy. Kewlpack semed to be impressed with it though. But he also liked the V-amp.never played it just heard some clips and read some stuff.

I bought the podxtlive because it is definately one of the best ones, and the usb and everything that comes with that pushed me over the edge i think. Also all the effects seemed fun, and i liked the the optional model packs incase i want more later. Oh....and with the new firmware you can download a model pack of bass amps and cabs and it came with some bass effects. So it is a guitar processor and bass processor.
