I'm going to bite the bullet and get a sovtek mig60

The Mig series is hit or miss. Some are built using good parts, some use some shotty parts. I have rebuilt probably 10 of them, and they are super simple to get gig ready. I just replace the pots, switches, and a few capacitors and it is ready for anything.

I have a thing for their sound and still have 2 mig 50's. They are a little different, but they are in the same ballpark, soundwise.

I think there are better buys on the used market if you are patient. The traynor idea is a good one. Bedrock, Univox, Kustom, and other obscure tube heads can be found for a song and a dance. I just bought a Nomad Mustang 65 EL34 50 watt head. It has excellent build quality and sounds better than the couple of Sovtek heads I have owned in the past.

I've got a mig60... I love it.

Picked it up for like 300 a few months ago - I have two very clean/fenderish ampeg amps that I use more often but whenever I want marshally heavy stuff it's great. I love the lo channel with a big muff or similarly voice fuzz too... I'm tempted to put KT's in it but I'm not sure if it needs 66's or 88's I always mix up the two.
