The Band Name Thread

is there a resource (web-based or otherwise) that lists all of the taken band names that are no longer useable unless you're into lawsuits or calling your band "Limp Bizkit U.K."? or at least a lot of bands? or maybe just the ones who have enough money to afford a court case against me?

just wondering as i've been tossing around some names for my recording project and will prolly pass along demos soonish.

www.purevolume.com/

Maybe
www.allmusicguide.com/
?

hey, i'd forgotten about allmusicguide. they're fairly comprehensive. (if comprehensive is something you can fairly be. )

i'd thought of amazon as a source--good but you're right, allmusic and myspace prolly fill most gaps.

I registered a bandname years ago when it was called bandreg, no need to sign up to search the database....seems they might need some sort of funding to keep the database ticking over smoothly though.....

Go to http://www.allmusic.com and search for the band you're looking for. If you don't see it, you're probably good to go. If you do see it, check out who has the name, if they seem like nobodies, take it anyways.

I remember this one time I was talking to this person about the Bad Seeds. I was going on how great of a band they were, and then I called them garage rock. He just kind of stared at me for a moment, like he thought I was crazy. I quickly realized he thought I was talking about Nick Cave when, in fact, I was talking about a garage rock band from the 60's. There was a similiar awkward moment when I was talking to someone about Skid Row, and they thought I was referring to the 80's hair metal band. Also, remember Black Sabbath's original name was Earth, but they renamed it after they found out another band had already taken it. Just don't do something stupid like use your own name if it happens to be Clapton. Then again, I guess there are two Elvises. :D

Actually, that should be the Australian Limp Bizkit Show.
