Members YourHerodDGC
So, i like my SG, but i don't love my SG. I think that i realized that i don't love it because the pickups are (and i don't know if this is exactly right) too loud. The old P-90s in my les paul seem to have a weaker output than my SG with all the same amp and pedal volume settings. I think i've also come to realize that i don't really like humbuckers. I much prefer p-90s. Now my question is, if i replace the humbuckers in my SG with a pickup like the seymour duncan Phat Cat, will the result be less loud, just because they're P-90s, or is something like the Phat Cat still loud? Members UfoPilot
Try adjusting the height of your pickups.

All are simple, cost-effective solutions. I just upgraded my HH Tele (3-way toggle) with a PRS 5-way and new pots... BAMMM.... sounds impeccable. Members PFDarkside
Do you know which pickups are in the SG currently? I wouldn't be surprised if it is the hot ceramic set (I think 498/500T combo? Something like that?) Regardless, you might like a set of Alnico pickups with more vintage output... Something along the lines of the SD 59 set or Pearly Gates set might be good to consider along with the Phat Cats. They have the 21 day return policy, so you could try the HBs then switch to the Phat Cats if you don't like them. Before doing that, definitely play with the height first though.
