Members (((echo)))
some of you know the Hiwatt gas I've had for a long while now.. sadly I may have missed the window on affording one so I'm wondering how close a Sound City would be.. I've heard great things about them.. does anyone know how close a 50 watt SC would be to the DR504
Members sirhcathome
Mark 4 50+, not much. Mark 3 would be *very* close to the Hiwatt sound. There are 100 and 200 models (L100, B100, L200, B200) and these are right there with the Hiwatts. If you go back to the Mark I amps, you have ones that were interchangable with the Pete Towshend Hiwatts. These are amazing. Once they hit the Mk4 amps, they have a very different sound. Members hempathy
I dont know how close the 50 watt heads are to hiwatts. What I can say is I have a 70's Sound City 50w Concord. Its a 3 channel 2 X EL34 amp with reverb. I bought it on the bay for
Members shipatsea
The biggest difference with the Sound City is the preamp. The mark 4 sounds especially different. It has that hiwatt headroom, is a little louder and sounds like a little more of a "sterile" clean vs. the Hiwatt.
Members anti-flag193
The bassist of this band I'm friends with plays a sound city 120 through a GK bass cab and it has to be the {censored}ing manliest, ball stomping bass tone I've heard. He's selling it though, for around $750 to get a Music Man head. The guitarist of the band uses a Hiwatt 100 watt and that thing sound amazing as well. I may have to hop on that sound city.
