Fuzz Head vs Dragon

Hi everyone, I'm planning on getting a new fuzz. I am debating between the Keeley Fuzz Head and the LovePedal Dragon. They both seem to be very versatile and get great reviews. I was wondering if by chance anyone here had tried both, and had any input to share. Or if you have chosen one, why did you?

thanks everyone

I have never played a Fuzz Head personally. Always wanted to though. From what I have heard from others and from sound clips, the Fuzz Head is more of an OD than a fuzz. Still a great sounding pedal nonetheless. The Dragon I can comment on from personal experience. Do a search on the Dragon as I have at least one thread on it and there have been a few others as well. All have a lot of reviews and thoughts of it on there. I can not tell you to pick one over the other since I haven't played the FH but I can tell you that the Dragon is very versatile. It will give you a righteous fuzz as well as many shades and flavors of OD and boost. There is plenty of gain on tap at all settings of the blend knob.

yea, the dragon seems really tempting. I like the versatility that both seem to offer. I read your thread and it sounds like an awesome pedal. How does it do with humbuckers versus single-coil? thanks for the reply, you are one of main reasons I've been considering the Dragon in first place! :thu:

I had a Fuzz Head a while back. At the time I was between bands and it was too loud for home use. Lots of volume and not a lot of fuzz. Reminded me of the rhythm guitar in Manic Depression. I'm in a band now and I'm seriously considering getting another one.

Happy hunting!

thanks, that's actually great to know. i have heard it's more OD than fuzz from a few people now. thanks for the comment.

and DJ, im still somewhat considering the Sun Face, but the 2 i mentioned i know the least about and am the most curious about. neither seem to be your typical fuzz, which intrigues me.

thanks.

Alright, cool. Although I have no experience with the dragon, Lovepedal drives are of the highest quality I have experienced.

that seems to be the consensus around here, which i think boasts highly for Sean's stuff. this is a fairly critical group, and i mean that in a good way :D

imho what distinguishes the lovepedal stuff is less how it sounds (though it sounds great) than how it plays. Less an effect than an instrument. I used to look for the next thing to add to my board; since getting my first lovepedal I look more for what I can remove.

Here's some crappy clips I threw together a weekend or two ago of the Dragon.

Blend cranked, Driver backed off a bit then turned up full about halfway through:

Blend all the way to the left, Driver cranked:
