well... you said you play metal

dl:4

unless you are the lead guitarist and play a lot of solos this won't add too much color.. if you play lot of lead, i think this improves it quite much!

mm:4

personally i don't like that one... but, well, for metal... why not? you will have flanger, phaser, chorus and rotary sounds that make you sound like a jet, or underwater or... definately "adds" color!!!

fm:4

well.. for metal.. hm.. i'd say just for intro/outros or special bridges.. it's a you love it or hate it pedal. i find it very inspiring, though....

i owned the dl4 and fm4 and played the mm4 of a friend of mine... i don't own the line6 stuff anymore.. so you can't come over to test it. but maybe check em out in the sound-and-drumland or guitar-shop.de ... i like the last one. not sure if they have them in stock, though.

if you do a blind buy i think the the mm4 would be good choice. especially for rythm parts. for leads the dl4 adds a lot of space!!! and for crazy stuff the fm4 is really crazy!

what are your other fx? or amps?

the dl4 is a great pedal. and an easy to use looper included (though only with around 32 sec. rec time)...

the echo park is great too. and i really liked the ibanez dl-7, you can use it in analog or digital mode. but the repeats are gone when you switch it off.

hm.. and about the fm4.. i'm not quite sure. more "normal" would it be to just go with the mm4. .. though i don't really like it. but you made me remember a friends band where the 2nd guitarist was using the fm4 just a little bit.. and it sounded great. played hardcore style and i really needed to know what that fx was when i first saw them!!!

if you look for delays.. look into:

dl-7

digidelay (budget of the echopark!)

echopark

dl4 / dd20

those are the ones i liked.

haha, yeah I sold Trent the right to use that name for his song

the Diezel is without a question the best amp I have ever played and I went trough alot of amps before the diezel. everything from bogner to mesa and engl. I love it :-D

when you listen to some songs listen to the ones from the Lie, Cheat & Steal album, cuz that is how we sound like....

do you use the diezel on the lie, cheat... stuff? well it sounds great and i really recommened you the fm4!!

+ if you can get a dl4, go for that. look at ebay.de or so. otherwise get the echopark. i think in some quiet passages a little self-oscillation could be nice.. ;)

if the dl4 is too much and you have trouble or dislike the echopark, try the ibanez dl-7,.. wonderful oscillation and good delay.

and some great stuff all of you are using!!

be sure that you use a good power supply.. the echopark is like most of the tonecore pedals and don't like some adapters.. so you will get some hiss..

a few hints about the fm4:

the octo setting can do self-oscillation if you play the 2nd and 3rd knob from the right. but keep watch the mix (faaar rigth knob) to not get too loud..

the seek-trem setting is cool. the obi-wah a little more weird and for that better imo. but the bass is feeling sometimes like it could damage the speaker on the obi-wah setting... ;)

the throbber is very nice! try that one!

if you play stereo,.. you could try the spin cycle.. nice.. but nothing more imo.

with the synthesizer setting (forgot the name.. it's the one htat's exactly 9 o'clock) you can get some cool telephon-ringing or bell sounds...

i often used the throbber and the morning dew settings for underwater barbles..

BE SURE YOU HAVE THE MANUAL WHEN YOU TEST IT!!!

well where the dl4 shines:

- 3 presets

- easiest looper i had and played with!

- great emulation of vintage tape-echos!!

- other delay sounds are great, too.

- with expression pedal incl. you can do fun things!! (also with the fm4 ;) )

ah.. i forgot. try to put the right output of the fm4 into the right input of the fm4.. just put a cable in there.. an be very careful.. really you need to try with your amp set to bedroom level first. crazy noises appear.
