Both push the amp harder for more output .. adding gain to your sound.. right ? I have a deluxe reverb , and i want to push it to its natural beautiful cranked tone.. help me out Shed some light.. Pretty simple,isn't it? An overdrive adds its own overdrive in addition to possibly pushing the amp's front end for more of its own gain as well. How you set the gain and level on the pedal obviously decides how much of either gets added. A straight boost pedal is simply that. It boosts the signal w/o changing it(supposedly)going into the amp slamming the front end with a stronger signal,causing it to overdrive. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yep,actually lots of the lower gain overdrives have been used as "nearly" clean boosts by having the level high and the gain as low as possible.
