so, seriously...what's up?

i just looked at a new HIwatt 2x12 cab online and the price tag is $1100.

there's no way that making these cabs costs anywhere near this - i understand about markups, but seriously - can anyone with a business background tell me what their strategy is by making a 2x12 cabinet basically unattainable in this way?

are they trying to drive the vintage gear prices higher too?

what's the deal?

hell, their custom 20 point to point wired heads sell for $1500.

so i'm supposed to believe that 2 speakers bolted into a birch box takes almost as much work as an amp?

yeah, but they're HiWatt's version of Fanes, so most likely they're not built to actual Fane spec, but what Hiwatt thinks they can get away with.

Are the cabinets imported? And not shipped by the boatload but one at a time? Then, maybe as shipping could well be $200-400. That is more expensive than a vintage 4x12" cabinet. I don't know about the speakers, could be great, have heard they are.
