Ibanez AD9 - Vintage vs Reissue

I'm wanting to pick up an AD9 for one of my delays, but I'm seeing that prices on originals are kinda high compared to the new reissue.

Are there any differences between the two models internally? Is reliability any different between the two?

I'm thinking if they're the same pedal, I'll just grab one from MF for $140 instead of hunting down an original any paying quite a bit more than that. Of course, being the type that I am, I'd rather have an original, but let's face it, money's a factor here.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

different chips.

i can't find the link, but someone posted a link to a mag that compared the sound quality of the Ibanez reissue against the Maxon 9 series reissue - the Ibanez did alright for normal delay purposes, but definitely wasn't up in the class of the maxon.

the Ibanez delay that is analog, sounds great, and is still cheap is the 99 series, if you can find them used.

ever look into one of those?

I had the original a few months ago .. it was ok , repeats got darker as they progrss .. the oscillation was kinda aggresive more than musical .. thought it lacked warmth ..

i compared it with the ibanez cd10 champ .. the cd10 champ a warmer feel to it ..

then sold both of em when i compared them to the dd20 ..

Did both Ibanez and Maxon re-issue the 9 series? Neither of them are identical to the older Ibanez AD9's though? Is it even analog anymore?

I'm very familiar with the 99 series. I've got a Tube King and Rotary Chorus already. I've also been considering an AD99, but to be honest with you, those things are big. My boards already about as big as I can stand it. My main goal with hunting down an old AD9 was to have a second delay, preferrably analog. I have a rackmounted Chanlder Stereo Digital Echo that I use for most of my longer delays.

For smaller gigs where I don't take my rack, a decent pedal analog delay would be nice, and I could use it for shorter delays when I do use the rack at other shows.

AD99 is very tempting though if I could find one. If pedalboard realestate gets too rough, I could always rehouse it.

sure - the AD9 reissue is analog.

they sure both look like AD9's to me.

same color, knobs, and the Maxon has the same chips.

another cheap analog delay you can try that's small is the DOD FX96 - those purple thingies..

you can find one on ebay or the HC classifieds pretty consistently for just over 100 bucks.

{censored}! I just A/'d my FX96 and my boss RPS-10 (coz that's the ony delay I have that'll give me an indication as to delay times) and the max I can get out of the FX96 is about 150msec. It's beginning to piss me off a bit. Someone here said 300Msec, but no way - not this pedal.

Sorry for the hijack - now - about those AD9's.....

something's wrong with yours...i had one that would repeat up to about 450 ms.

some FX96 models have internal trim pots you can mess with to get more repeats out of the chips - maybe yours got to you after someone messed with it.

Nup - no trimmers in there. It's the older one with the 'reel graphics' on it. Maybe I should send it off for a repair. Howard Davis maybe?

Grrrrr. Oscillates beautifully though, but at those shhort times it can get muddy REAL quick.

Thanks for the heads up, Sona
