Members ScottS5776
Hey guys, I've got a new Boss GT-8, and a descent HP Laptop. That's it. Now, what's the best way to get hooked up/start recording or editing patches. I notice there's no USB port on the GT-8... Keep in mind i'm new to the GT-8 world, and don't want to spend TOO much more... Thanks...
Members Ultra.Fuzz
A descent soundcard I guess... No, but really, I think that's it. Unless the one built-in/onboard sounds good enough. About editing patches: go to bossgtcentral.
Members ScottS5776
but how do I actually get the machine into the computer?
Members Ultra.Fuzz
Do you have the manual? If so, then check the outputs section. Go to bossgtcentral and spend some time there, as I believe the answer for your question lies somewhere between the articles and the recording forum. Members Kewlpack
Definitely go to www.bossgtcentral.com (specifically the GT8 Main and GT8 Patches Only forums). We have lots of info on hooking it up to your PC over there.
Members bball_1523
To record, you have to use the "digital out" on the gt-8, and need a good soundcard with low latency and that has spdif in/out. SPDIF cables are simple RCA phono cables. I myself have a m-audio firewire solo external soundcard and it works fine with the gt-8, while recording. Members jeverist
Actually you don't have to use the digital output, but that option is available if you have a digital in on your soundcard. I just use the audio out, set the output to Line Out on the GT-8, then into my MBox(external soundcard). I find the mic preamp on the MBox helps warm up the sound a bit. Works great!! Just watch your levels so you're not overdriving the soundcard.
