been into effects for 4 years but i've never ever tried a fuzz...

but lately realising that alot of the sounds i listen to is actually fuzz.

Expect something creamy, yet not muffled but clear & articulate..

Any recommendations for a first timer in fuzz?

Foxrox Hot Silicon is my recommendation. Wicked awesome.

But yeah, check the fuzz lounge. You'll be buried in options in no time. You'll likely go through a couple before you really figure out what works for you though.

What kind of guitar do you have?

1+ as well

they say great minds think alike. SS and WB said exactly what I would say

first decide wether you can SI or GE and then venture out. Be ready to not like many. Be ready to have a fuzz that doesnt like your pickups, amps etc

True that Fusion, one fuzz that kills with humbuckers and a marshall stack can sound like poo with single coils and an EL-84 combo. You can get a decent idea of how something is going to sound from talking to people in here or skimming the HC reviews, but until you try it with your setup there's no telling what will work.

No, the one he made me was the last PCB board layout he had for it - before that his comp crashed apparently which had the layout and wiring diagram etc - he got little response from people at the time and sold maybe two to other people - mine was the last one.

SCOD.

It's not a fuzz per se, but it will cut through like no other fuzz will. :)

I haven't had any luck with the fuzzes I've had (FF, LF2, Neo). They either are too thin or get lost in the mix.

However if you still want a fuzz, my reccomendation would be a Skreddy Mayo with full mids mod.

I know that feeling ... I was not a fuzz man before I got hold of the Cheese Tone for the same reasons you outlined. I used to try everything including Big Muffs and vintage Roland Bee Baa's and they all sounded like {censored} to me with just no guts or too much fizz or too much woofiness and there was never a happy place for me. Then I heard the Lovetone version and found something I loved and luckily got a clone built thankgod cause Lovetone prices are for lawyers not musicians!

thanks for the replies :thu:

i basically have no budget constrain. LOL.

i feel what TIKIROCKER said...fuzz usually give me a feeling that its fizzy, messy and gets lost in the mix...

but i certainly do hear some albums which i guess should be played on fuzz, to be tight, creamy and clear when they strike an open chord and let it ring...

tried a rat, all fizz and messed up...overdrive, tight and clear but not enough gain to sound creamy at all...

btw, for now i'm using a microcube with my edwrds forest gt in my rented apartment..pending a new guitar or pickup anytime now...

but my mind thinks of fuzz every now and then,...

do a search for the Fuzzwork Orange. Utterhack and Rev wrote 2 long and good reviews.

Retroman Sybil.

Then, you don't have to decide between Ge or Si.

It has two independent Fuzz Face circuits, one is Ge and one is Si. You can run them in Series or Parallel. This means you can select either side on its own, run both together, or use either side to drive the other side. Pretty versatile and gets you many different fuzz tones in one box.
