Members dcooper830
It's just cause they cost less. Your ears will hear differently once you know that it's a budget priced amp.I don't imagine they're as bad as H.C.A.F. guys make them out to be. If you're not talking about VHT, Diezel, Genz-Benz, Mesa, or Splawn, .. they ain't wanna hear what you got to say..
Members book_of_lies777
too many people here(and elsewhere, I'm sure) fall for the 'boo-teek mystique' - if it ain't hand-made by some guy in his garage shop, it automatically 'sucks'... The 12 OD pedal audio shootout post awhile back settled that for me - the $40 Digitech Bad Monkey sounded just as good as the stuff costing 3x that.MGs aren't as bad as the snobs try to make them out - NO, they're not the same as $3k tube amps, and no one should expect them to be. BUT, they are damn good for what they are, and for what they cost.I started out playing guitar on a 10 watt Gorilla amp (1987) I'd have drop-kicked my grandma for something as good sounding as an MG for the price back then!! If you love the sound, that's really all that matters. For me, the hate has nothing to do with the price, or the absence of a power tube. Just the feeling that there's better bang for the buck at every price point the MGs cover. On the lower end, I really like the Vox Pathfinders, f'rinstance, and the Kustom Tube 12, and the old Kustom 16r. At the higher end, I'd opt for a Fender Pro Junior, especially if I'm getting my OD from pedals, since that makes the absence of master volume less of a factor. No cork-sniffin' here - I just don't love the MG cleans and really don't like the built-in distortion. But again, if you dig it, I can sod right off. I've found out that usualy a tube amp being distorted or overdriven by most pedals does the job for me but I can't say the MG's distortion pleases me. Same here.. My girlfriend has a MG10 at home (for bass practice.. they work very well for that! No farting sound even in the lowest registers). And I have my selfmade 18watt tube amp for home use... Guess which amp I play most of the time? The MG10..The MG10 sounds a tad better at low volumes. For home use I highly recommend it.Btw, I've heared that the larger models should suck, and the MG10 is the real gem. I haven't tried the large ones though. Members HuskerDude
When I was working at the used music shop, we got more of those things in (over and over) than just about anything else. No one seems to hold on to them for very long.
Members InterpolJaguar
I had the MG 50 a while ago. It was really nice but it broke down on me three times and was always repaired when my father went with me to the store and talked to the owner (which he knows) and he agreed to take it as a trade in at full price for my current amp. My current amp is alot better but if I were to buy a practise amp I'd probably get an MG.
Guest Anonymous
ive had it about three weeks and for 50.00 i thinks its worth it i do use my own distortion but its simple and looks pretty cool also.i just dont want some disposable crap.ive got (from the early 80s) a peavy rage a peavy bandit a ampeg g18? stage 720/ 212 these amps really never had a problem.i also like the cube but im using my own dirt for that also. another thing i realize that the mg and the cube arent in the same category. the cube because its portable really sets it apart from most practice amps i should have compared the cube with the vox DA5. but ive heard so much about this damn microcube i got it without comparing the two.
