Is this idea totally insane?

I just bought a brand-spankin' new Fender American Deluxe Strat maybe a month or two ago, and it's really a fantastic guitar. SCN's, locking tuners, S-1 switching... High quality all around. It's clean tones are fantastic. But when it comes to distorted tones I find myself always going back to my C-1 Classic, which is far and away the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I truly believe Schecter guitars are the best bang for the buck, and if I were forced to pick between one or the other I wouldn't hesitate in getting rid of the "nicer" guitar.

So here's the thing... A couple of high-end pedals have really bitten me in the ass, and I need them. Am I nuts to even consider selling the Strat to fund my GAS? I've got a couple other guitars, but they never get played and they're not worth much, so I'd effectively be down to one axe.

The pedals in question are the Electro Harmonix HOG with all the bells and whistles (foot controller, expression pedal...), and some Moog goodies, primarily the MuRF.

if you havent developed a relationship with the strat I dont see why you cant sell it. I also have an am deluxe strat. I love this guitar and after 1 year of the time using it, have developed a relationship and cant sell it now basically.

Gas is horrible. But consider this too. The am dlx strats are going to be there with a stable price. The HOG is a digital pedal and the price is going to come down in the future cuz there will be more on the market and be more available in the used market. Unless EHX goes out of business which I doubt (or I pray they dont). Strats age well. They teach you to play slow and pretty too.

The MuRF is definitely on my list, but the HOG is the main reason for this thread. And as far as having a "relationship" with the guitar, I know I haven't had it long enough to really grow fond of it, but the C-1 is without a doubt my #1 guitar. It's just effortless to play.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

If you really haven't bonded with your guitar, sell it. But don't sell it if you're at all doubtful and it's just the most obvious route to raise some cash. Strats are arguably the hardest guitars to bond with but are the most worth persevering with - I remember it took a long time for me to click with my bought-new '88 USA Standard.

honestly since i was first starting out my thought process has centered around the fact that if i'm not using it, then i don't need it.
the cleans might be great, but don't you want a guitar that works great the whole way round ?
anyway, it might be the sex but if you prefer your Schechter than i think its coming down to
knowing what you should do
vs.
knowing what you want to do.

or something to that effect...:freak:

Had a Tele, traded it for the Strat. And I've sworn off the joe (although I say that fairly often).

That's really the way I usually think as well. If I'm not using it to it's fullest potential, why not sell it to get something that I know I will use? I'm not a collector in the slightest, so if it's not on my board, it's in the SPAM thread. Guitars are no different. I think I'll throw it in the SPAM threads to see if there's any interest, and if not then I've still got a great #2 guitar.

Thanks for all the advice, even if I'm ignoring most of it.

Maybe what you think is better about the C1 will change to just different later then even later just plain better. Don't do it! I used to love my PRS and hated single coils. Now i am a single coil man. Ever play that Strat through some Fuzz boxs? I think that through a Marshall stack sure the humbucker shines but with a nasty Fuzz give me a Strat!

Well, personally, I think you're dreaming if you think you're going to get $1,000 for your strat...but perhaps you've priced it so it will only sell if you get really lucky.

At any rate, you might try a stacked humbucker in the bridge position if you want to get a more powerful distorted sound out of your strat as well as the clean tones it already has. I'd look at a Duncan JB Jr. or a Dimarzio HS-3.
