Is the zoom 505 a shit-box?

i had one when they first came out.

It was fun to play arround with when i was dirt poor. If you dont own many effects, and want to try something out cheap, its a good way to get your self aquainted with them, especially since you can get used ones for $25

DOD has been owned by the harmon group for a long long time. I am not sure if they are umbrellaed under digitech or not, but it all comes from harmon.

For a while it looked like they were going to do away with the dod name completely, but they have been making those digitech pedals for at least 3 years now.

So did I, and I agree. It sucked that there was no speed/depth, only a single control that made everything more intense. However, even if you aren't poor the step function on it is interesting enough for $10 if you don't have a seek-wah...

Unless your "new" to the whole FX-pedal world and/ or need to sample some FX "flavors" befor making that "big" purchese then yes it is a "{censored}-box" as you call it. Burns through batteries so use an adapter right away if you do get it.

I find mine really useful for business trips. Throw it in the strat gig bag and it's adequate for hotel room jamming through headphones. (I thought it was worth the $10 I paid)

Wouldn't add it to the pedal board, but it's good for travelling. There are some other neat pedals in that line though (the 507 reverb and 508 delay for starters)

Second the motion it's nice to have as a headphone amp.

For $10 it's worth it for the tuner function. I had a 505 II and the tuner on it was quite good. As far as sound quality, I used it for practice with headphones or for low volume jams and it was useable. Once I tried using it at higher volume at a gig and it wasn't very good - kind of brittle and digital sounding. In my opinion, the best low cost multi-fx pedal out there now is the Zoom G2 ($99). It's light years beyond the 505 series in sound quality and features.
