Members gatordoc Posted June 5, 2006 Members Share Posted June 5, 2006 Been thinking of getting a Barber Burn Unit but from what I've read the Small Fry seems to cover what the Burn Unit does and then some. Anyone try a Small Fry yet? Opinions? I'm going to order a Tone Press anyway so I might as well get both at the same time if the SF is worth the cash. Members HMCMedic Posted June 5, 2006 Members Share Posted June 5, 2006 I love mine. I have both pedals. I keep the Small Fry on pretty much all the time and use the Tone Press to boost. The Tone Press is also amazing when combined with heavy fuzz and a wah wah pedal. (good for playing Dead Meadow) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Right now I use either an old DynaComp or Rt 66 comp and am looking for something with a little less squash for cleans, which is why I am interested in the Tone Press. From the description, the Small Fry is supposed to be more of an American OD sound rather than a Marshall type OD like the Direct Drive. Do you find this to be true? I was actually just looking at Xotic reviews yesterday and trying to figure out what exactly these pedals do! Are they treble boosters with gain control? Seems there have been a lot of good reviews lately for the AC, BC, and BB which caught my interest because they seem to have been out for a while yet suddenly there's a lot of buzz. That's cool. So the BB is like a Marshall, and from what I've read the AC is lower gain with more of a Vox tone (so maybe it's supposed to stand for AC-30?). Not sure what the BC is supposed to sound like. I wish there were some good clips of these 3 pedals. I went to their site but it's all in Japanese or something.
