Members ChocolatyShatnr
The amp forum scares me. . . I have a Fender Prosonic combo, and while it's good for cleans at moderately loud volumes, it has a hard time keeping up clean at loud band volumes . .. I'm interested in the new AC30 custom classic head, how well does it stay clean? Does it work well with effects? Does anyone recomend a loud clean tube amp that can be had for around $1000 (without cab if head)?? I'm also just looking for a different flavor from the Prosonic . . . + the effects loop blows in that thing!
Members jeverist
My AC-30 can stay clean alongside a loud drummer and still have plenty of headroom. I also have a Hot Rod Deville that can get even louder before breaking up - in fact it can be brutally loud and still clean. Beyond that, a Twin Reverb will make you go deaf before it breaks up. My Deville likes most effects, wheras the AC-30 is more picky. If you go with the AC-30 you need to be careful in choosing overdrives, distiortions, fuzzes, etc. The right ones can get you into Edge or Brian May territory, but its easy to wind up with pedals that don't sound all that great with this amp. Members Teahead
The Normal Channel will get you some very loud cleans and it eats up most boosts, overdrives & fuzz pedals. It's a perfect match for single coil guitars too. The Brilliant Channel gets dirtier earlier on the dial and is much more picky about pedals, but can still do clean sounds that will sit with a drummer in a live band. AC30s for loud cleans & effects? It could be what they were made for, think Radiohead, Johnny Marr, U2 etc...

Members Nico de Roode
Vox is clean if you consider a saxophone clean. Thick and compressed. I think everybody knows the shadowstone. That is voxclean.
Members chrisjnyc
The AC30 loves pedals! I can't think of a pedal which doesn't work with the amp. It's not a super clean amp, but the mojo is part of the warm tone from some mild overdrive.
Members Nico de Roode
The zoom driver 5000 didn't. And I think it's a difficult pedalpleaser
