Members Arjae
I eneded up returning the Fender MIM Blue Agave Tele that I got for $249 during the GC sale last week. After replacing the pickups, bridge, saddles, pickguard, knobs, etc., I realized that I was looking to replace the neck next. So I came to my senses and returned it all. For the money I was and was going to be dumping into it, I could just get a much better tele from the start. I couldn't get over how cheap the neck felt on it. So now I am looking around for that one kick ass tele to start saving up for. A while back, I would have had no question about getting a '52 Reissue but now I am not so certain. I am looking to cap it around $1,500 but wouldn't mind if it came in a bit less. But I realize that other than a Highway One or a Nashville, I am looking at at least $1k and probably more approaching the $1,500 mark if I decide to stay away from the Custom Shop stuff. So given that price range, what should I be looking at? I prefer to buy new so keep that in mind. I am not opposed to getting used if it is the right one but I am not into hunting down a specific used guitar. I rather order one online (and hope it is a good one of course). Members Arjae
Yep. That is one I am considering as well. I would really rather have a nitro finish on it versus the thick lacquer that is on the '52 Reissue. Where'd you order yours from?
Members jonny guitar
Man....I know you prefer new but 1500 will get you a second hand MINT condition 2005-/2006 Suhr that will just blow the Fender out of the water and you can pick up a MINT Nitro Finished Grosh for even less. Members preservation
for $1500 i'd make a killer Warmoth tele w/ a real fender neck.
Members JeffreyCH
I'm in the same boat. I'm considering the 52 thin skin as well.
Members Janglin_Jack
I don't have a thin skin, but I love my '52 reissue Tele. That ash body just resonates and it has a kickass sound. I love that guitar! Jack
Members Last Nerve
Arjae,I would use patience, and really WOULD search high and low for a NICE used Custom Shop Tele.Check www.gbase.com and order/pick up an issue of Vintage Guitar. That's a good amount of moola to throw somewhere. And don't' be afraid to offer less than these people are asking. I am gonna be patient about it. It would have just been easier and more justifiable to order say a '52 Reissue and throw it on the MF card and pay it off over a few months. I think I need to sell a bunch of stuff and just pay cash.

Members Vince
Make your own!!I bought the neck from Allparts, and it's lovely - vintage radius, nice and fat (but not too fat) and really smooth.
Members NoirAbattoir
I would get one of those AVRI thinskin models. They're suppose to age just like the originals.

There's a place near me that is the only Fender Custom Shop dealer in New England and he also carries a ton of G&L's. The last time I was in there, he had just got a Custom Shop '67 tele. It was really sweet. $2,400 and change though. He has a lot of nice CS stuff. So I try and avoid going there.

Members pboudreau
This may not be a big issue to some, but it is something to think about. If your a chicken picker and are used to resting the heel of your hand on the bridge, the sharp edges of the screws on the bridge will take tiny little nicks out of your heel while playing. It was an annoyance that I could not get past, so I returned the 52 reissue. I loved that guitar otherwise. to compensate, I picked up a custom tele with binding and a more modern bridge design. Members DaSkip
I've got a G&L ASAT BluesBoy that is fantastic. The ASAT 's come with great choices in pick-ups. The build quality of the American models is outstanding. That being said the Suhr would be very tempting as well as the higher end Fender models.Your call bro. Members DaSkip
Tom Andersons are great, really great. I didn't know you could score one for $1.5 k.
Members rossta1
I'll second that "used, mint Suhr" comment. After playing a few a few years back, I won't own another brand of strat or tele. IMO they beat the pants off even Andersons - which I used to think was THE shiznat. Currently own 3 VERY different Suhrs - all for killer, sub-$1500 prices. Members Kestral
If I had to do it all over again, I'd seriously consider a Bill Nash relic series Tele.

I have been checking those out quite a bit. If I could have it my way, the tele I get would be pretty damn beat up. The Nash's look like a great way to speed up the process. Members DaSkip
My one question is. Can you order the same tele but not beat up (aged). If it is a keeper and a player it will get your knocks and dings. To me that is what makes it your guitar. I mean you're buying a new guitar. I don't get the aged look on a new guitar, play it...it'll age.
