thanks guys!

i like writing songs in the traditional pop/rock sense but i find myself most satisfied when my music gets closer to something else--i want to say classical music but i'm not sure that is it. in any case Traumnovelle is definitely one example of that happening.

i highly recommend checking out Arvo P

progs? i need progs? dear lord...no-one even told me!

it's all done thru the Toneport, either using it as a straight-up USB interface or--in the case of the keyboards and vocals--recording direct, using the Gearbox SW that comes w/ the Toneport. Gearbox is bascially a mini-POD.

i think i used a Beta series SHURE mic for everything that was miked--drums, amp, etc. the Gearbox has stuff like preamps, compressors, etc, which i used especially for drums and vox.

recording program: (OHHHH! THAT'S WHAT A PROG IS! :) ) Abelton Live. but it's the Lite version that comes w/ the Toneport. only 4 tracks and 4 FX per song total so it's kinda limited but i thought it would be good to start since i need to learn the basics before i go crazy with loads of layers and FX. but those fx came in handy for fixing up the drums--adding 'verb and EQing 'em to get a decent sound.
btw the drums aren't TOO boomy are they?

p.s. guitar gear is in sig. keys: GEM electric organ. drums: pacific by DW, crappy zildjian cymbals. and some kinda glockenspiel

dude im convinced you neither work nor have a family, live in some sort of hangar and have a PC wired to the internet in the corner of it.
You sleep on a matress that has no sheet covers
I just cant picture you ever eat, get out or do anything else than post here and play your guitar for that matter

thats weird ah?

then your taste of music kind of supports all this weirdness.

oh by the way I really liked traummovelle. keep them coming

well...my works has its fair share of downtime (one reason for the post count), my family's not in state, it's not a hangar it's a former dairy building, i have wireless, and i have sheets on my fold-out couch that i sleep on.

so there!

:p

Going good. We have all the base tracks (guitars, keyboards, drums) done.. now we are starting to overdub the cello, some guitar overdubs, bells, and bass (he's out of the country right now)

we have a rough mix of just a snipet of our songs on myspace. (the site is acting weird.. so it may not play :()

pulsar47

the song is "Quantum Rock".

I love the sounds of the drums in the songs. And what is making that cello sound in the Traumnovelle? sounds awesome!

sounds nice! looking forward to the release! the HUM frontman is engineering, right? has he been producing a lot since the HUM days?

the Traumnovelle "cello" is bowed guitar (Epi LP) with wet reverb (hello, Magicstomp  ) to take off a bit of attack and to add general eeriness.

....that you're an even bigger Kubrick geek than I am...

Great song! Some of the guitar phrasing reminds me of Rodan. You did all that with the Toneport? Nice work!

If you release a recording, let us know where to buy a copy.

well done!
it's probably my least favorite Kubrick and i'm not that big on Schnitzler, and i'm really only interested in that middle Ligeti phase but that piece worked so well in the film.

PM me your bank account number and i'll transfer the $. strangely enough, however, my CD is going to cost one million dollars so we'll just call it even steven. ;)

thanks for the kind words. and for reminding me of Rodan. i've not really listened to em and keep meaning to.

man that bowed guitar sounds freaking amazing! very cool. Are you using a violin bow?

Yeah, Matt Talbott did the recording and engineering.. he's done a few local bands here, and their releases have sounded pretty cool.

a viola bow actually. i bought a cheap viola, expecting to learn some basics but never really got around to it; and then i found out that bowing guitar is probably more fun anyways!

btw thanks for the comments on the drums earlier. that was one hting i had to work on in mixing, micing, and EQing. glad to hear i've improved!

Why don't you just paypal me the cash, and then, when the CD is ready, send me an invoice... :thu:

Seriously though, I listened to the track again this morning. I dig it.

Rodan owns. {censored} slint - that's the reunion tour I want to see....

Uma Floresta thinks the music is pretty. 48729zjd thinks it's creepy.

Diggin' it. Good work, Guya!

BTW, anyone who likes music like this should pick up a SPARKLEHORSE album or four. I only recently realized that some people haven't heard their stuff...

Specfically, check out IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE and GOOD MORNING, SPIDER. You will be inspired.
