Epi Valve Junior + modeler?

probably not a great idea.

I love my VJ a ton but there's virtually no headroom on the thing...which is generally what you want if you're planning on doing an amp modelling setup. I suppose you can do it anyways. With my current setup, after the modifications on my VJ, it turns from mild breakup to crunch at about 12 o clock and from crunch to sludge territory at about 3 o clock. i run it at about 5 o clock :D (full tilt). At these volumes it sits RIGHT under a loud drummer standing right in front of my 4x12 (small practice space) If i can get some distance between me and the cab its a pretty good mix.

I run my POD XT Live through 2 Valve Jr. combos. I have it set up in my jam room. It works great for playing at home, I don't keep 'em turned up very much. I have used this rig a couple of times live and I just miked the amp. Worked great.

Old thread, but I just got my valve junior and am running a pod xtl through it, then on to a Line 6 2X12.

I think it sounds great, at the volumes I bought it for (loud-ish bedroom). Avoid clipping the input of the VJ, and maybe tweak out a litttle of the mids the el84 adds, and the setup rocks.

The head also makes a great reality check after jamming through the pod for a while- plug straight into the VJ and see how you sound without all the gloss.

I'm just wondering, it you change the 12ax7 to a lower 12at7 or 12au7 if you'd get enough clean headroom to make it workable.

I own a live xt and have been looking for something to power a nice 1x12 cab I have with a tone tubby speaker. I'd resigned myself to eventually just getting a power amp, but could possibly work. Not sure if it would warm the tones up at all, just theorizing.
