OT: Do You Believe In UFO's??

There was a good show on this a couple months back on either the Discovery channel or the History channel, can't remember which one. It delt mainly with the Roswell incident. The creepy thing was the people that saw it were all later told by the FBI if they told anyone what they saw, they would be killed. And they took the pieces from the crash to some lab in the middle of the desert, and the sign outside read something along the lines of "top secret. keep out. all unauthorized persons will be shot."

If I'm not mistaken, Sagan based his probability on calculations based on how many planets there were that had surface temperatures that could sustain life.

Since then, there have been studies that have shown that its not just the distance from the Earth to the sun, but also the influence of the moon, having a planet like Jupiter where it is, the size of the earth, and other cosmic factors that all have lent themselves to sustaining life on Earth. The probability of having all these factors occur in a given solar system is actually quite rare. Scientists who have studied these things have concluded that there is possibly a large number of planets with simple lifeforms - bacteria, algae, microbes, etc, but that complex life beyond that is likely very rare in the universe and that we may in fact be unique.

Seeings as how vast the universe is, the likelyhood of there being other life on another planet is believable. Have they come and visited us? Doubt it. They are constrained by the same rules of physics as us.
