Members TIKILOCKEDOUT
The rules are simple - but for those new to the game - a person begins by posing a question regarding some rock history; no other questions can be asked until that question has been answered; the person who answers the question correctly gets to post the next quiz question. If for some reason somebody fails to confirm the answer to their question within a reasonable period of time - say within 10 mins then the first person to post an answer to that unanswered question is allowed to post the next quiz question. People may answer a quiz question as many times as they wish. Good luck and play fair - 1st Question ... Who was the first band to use a violin bow on an electric guitar in a major recording - I need the name of the band, their country of origin and the decade. Members english_bob
The Creation, UK , 1960s. Eddie Phillips is the guitarist. The UK session scene being what it was, Pagey probably ghosted for Phillips on one or more occasions.

Page has been credited with all kinds of bollocks over the years including the lead on You Really Got Me ... my old man was in the Kinks and knew Ray well ... he also saw Creation back in the day and they were the first as they did it live also. Well done though ... your quiz. just found this... He (Jimmy Page) was a favorite session musician of famed producer, Shel Talmy. Talmy had used Page on session work for the Who and the Kinks among others. One of Talmy's pet projects was a band called the Creation. Eddie Phillips, lead guitarist of said group, had employed a violin bow on his guitar on two 1966 singles, "Painter Man" and "Making Time." It's worth musing over whether Page ever happened to see Phillips use the violin bow in the studio. Talmy himself had no doubts about it. In the book, Unknown Legends of Rock 'n' Roll, he shared his views on Eddie Phillips and Jimmy Page with author Richie Unterberger. "He (Phillips) was one of the most innovative guitarists I've ever run across. Jimmy Page stole the bowing bit of the guitar from Eddie. Eddie was phenomenal," Talmy said. Page himself has claimed he didn't meet Eddie Phillips until Jim McCarty's 50th birthday party in 1994. Further, and to be fair, there are also pictures of Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett using a violin bow in concert ...

Nice ... but the CREATION were happening in 64 and Pink Floyd didn't get going until 66 ... the Kinks were happening in 64 along with the Stone, Beatles and Kinks also ... Ole Jimmy is bull{censored}ting about Eddie ... and Shel Talmy is right on - my old man knows this stuff too - anyone who saw Eddie live in the early 60's as my dad did would tell you he was ridiculously talented and pre Syd Barrett for innovation.
