the only thing i didnt really like about it is the lack of midrange. and by lack, i mean its pretty damn scooped sounding...to the point where i couldnt cut thru with a band. then again i was going for high gain with it (i ran an RC booster into it) so i guess i cant really comment on its use as an overdrive. i did like the tone of the pedal though...the quality of the distortion.

I keep trying other pedals out but always come back to the OCD. I agree that it is too scooped for high gain (I use a twin type amp) but for a low gain, main rhythm tone I have not yet found anything better. It has a bossy low end, a vicious high end with {censored}loads of harmonics that break into beautiful feedback with ease, it cleans up with the volume knob while still retaining its bite, and it really responds in a dynamic and juicy way when you dig in or back off on your strings. If not for the mids thing I would say its perfect.
What I've started doing is running an eq after it to just bump up the mids a bit (and I really do mean just a bit), and then I get the whole package. I would like to not have to use the eq because I try to keep things simple, but if the tone is good it's good.

As said before depends on your amp and guitar set up. I've only listened to the sound clips on the fulltone website, but he is using an old Marshall plexi head I think? It does sound very good, but it's the type of pedal to sound great on an amp already breaking up. On a totally clean amp like a Fender Twin, I don't know if it's going to sound as good?
There are plenty of alternatives around the same price bracket. Just have a look on these forums to get an idea, that's what I did! I eventually went for the Crowther Hot Cake, as it was

The OCD is a GREAT! pedal for the price$. I also like the Tim/Timmy, VD Sparkle Drive, MJM Blues Devil
For cheap a lot of guys swear by the bad monkey. I tried it and returned it. Some have even kicked some boutique pedals off their board in favor of the lowly BM.

I had one as soon as they came out. I bought it because they were selling for more on ebay than from Fulltone. I couldn't tell the difference between it and a stock Boss DS-1. It didn't impress me at all. I sold it for $220 and made $40 on it, so I was impressed with it in one way. It was all buzzy and raspy with absolutely no mids whatsoever. I tested it with an AVRI 62 Strat and a 1966 Princeton Reverb. Me no likey!

OCD:
It's a very good pedal. I also found it bright and feel it lacks some low mids (on HP it adds some high mids) but have found a use for it by cutting the tone knob to 9~10 o'clock and keeping the drive low. I don't think its mid scooped that mutch but it can sound thin on certain amps. Sounds great on fender tweeds (very mid heavy compared to scooped mids blackface fenders) and I get poor results used on amps they emulate (cranked AC15 or marshall 20W). The pedal does capture the spirit and dynamics of a cranked AC15 or Marshall 20Watter on most amps I play. I normally wouldn't run those amps (AC15/20W Marshall)with pedals (well, OK I'd use a delay and booster but nothing else).
It is one of the most dynamic pedals out there (i.e. the harder you pick the more break-up) and why I just can't seem to get away from it. Purchased the OCD about 4 months ago used (first version, way past hype)...paid about $115?

Alternatives:
The Xotic BB pre-amp can get a similar range of tones and has different EQ options (tone/bass controls verse mode switch/tone on OCD). I didn't like the way it was voiced (very subjective, I have their RC and AC boosters and love the way they are voiced) and felt it was a little less dynamic than the OCD.

Another alternative (although expensive with cheap model paint jobs) would be the BJF Pink Purple Fuzz. It produces a sturdy but tame fuzz on the extreme settings but has a very open (i.e. little compression) and dynamic overdrive tone on lower gain settings and picked lightly has a gritty clean boost quality. Not many would see the BJF PPF as an alternative but they can cover similar ground and those who like the dynamics but not the voice of the OCD will find similar dynamics in the PPF at lower gains with a completely different voice (it cuts through mixes very well).
Paint will chip instantly and often (its model plane paint on alum enclosures for crying out loud).

The OCD is a killer pedal! Its extremely well built and sounds awesome! The newer version has the 500k mod and I think that makes a big difference.

Its can go from a real light OD to distortion. It really suprised me how much gain it has on top. Definitely a winner!

However, with Harry's shoutout I liked the TIM sound a tad better. Good thing Ive been on the list since early Feb.! :)
