Members Blungo
You don't need a very powerful drill, but you do need a Unibit.
Members autopilot
+1 on the Unibit, just measure and mark things before drilling.

Members DaSkip
You also need to center punch the location. Your drill bit will try to wander around the surface, rather than staying where you want the hole.
Members LongJohnny
A cordless 7 volt drill will not be good. You want something that plugs into a wall. You will wear down any battery very quickly drilling into metal. John

I don't need a drill for anything else so I would be buying it just for this. Anyone know if a machineshop or any other place may do this for a fee? Members MrSage
Do you already have the enclosure?
Members PurpleStrat
I have a cheap one I bought from Radio Shack for practice. I am going to try to rehouse my Behringer VD1 in it. If it goes well I will look to get a better enclosure and try it. Baby steps.

I's just gonna say that you can e-mail Kirk at www.pedalpartsplus.com and he can do a pre-drilled enclosure for you. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended. I was just at his site looking at the orange enclosure for the VD1 if all went well with the first round. Will he do one offs? I thought he only did multiples. Members dot-dot-dot
Ideally a pillar drill is best - further reduces wandering and it's far safer. Even a little bench drill is better than a hand drill.
Members Lanefair
I might add to this that I once got my set designer friend and his wonderful hand drill to drill my enclosure, and it ended up looking like swiss cheese. Also the man above me has done a couple of boxes for me and I can vouch for him knowing what he talks about.
Members alteredsounds
+100000000 on the Unibit. Get the right one and it will do all the holes from small switch holes upto stompswitch size
Members DaSkip
One other item. The harder the metal the slower your drill bit speed should be. Aluminium fairly fast/ titanium very slow. I know there are no titanium boxes. I just used it as an example.
Members alteredsounds
i use a multi-speed cordless and have a drill bench that I can clamp it in for more accurate drilling. A Dremmel is very useful to.
