Skreddy Screwdrivers:

With what guitars and amp are you, um, screwdriving?

I'm very curious about this pedal. Is it more of a fuzz? Overdrive? Cuts through a busy band, or is it more of a bedroom/recording specialist? Is the midrange scooped, boosted, or neither?

Thanks!

Used it with a 71 Les Paul Deluxe & MIA Fat Strat to a Mesa T Verb & Fender Super 60. Sounded great with all of those combos. I'll be taking it to practice this week to play with it some more. It's a great pedal and I've left it at home too many times.

To me, the Screw Driver is the perfect low gain OD. Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of gain and sounds great at higher settings but at low gain, it is the best I have played. It sounds nothing like a Tube Screamer (or a RAT). Nice mids that don't have a hump but cut through just fine. It has a certain roundness to it. The tone controls on it are really nice in that you can dial in the bass fed into the circuit and then also control the brightness. Very well thought out and executed. :thu:

Now we're talkin'. Thanks!

I actually love both Neurosis and Rat pedals. My ears, however, are completely shattered.

The Screw Driver could save you a lot of time and money if you were to just buy one. It's really the best overdrive pedal I've used. From my experience, I don't know of any other pedal that can top it.

I couldn't make mine work for me - that Presense trim pot was too sensitive and interactive with the Tone control for me to dial it in to my satisfaction. I much prefered the Hellbilly - shoulda kept that one!

The Top Fuel is a distortion but with its gain at minimum it can sound like a medium overdrive. That's not its primary function though. I would say that gain-wise (not sound-wise) the Top Fuel starts in the middle of the Screw Driver's gain range.
