It's got a switch that gives you 5 or 6 ways to sound really bad.

No, no, no....

???

my roomate's brother had one and i thought it sounded great.

it wasn't a shredder's pick, but i thought it sounded great with his big fat chords for his roots rock band.

the Nighthawk/Blueshawk was the worst sounding high model Gibby ever made, IMO.

.

anyone have any theories why this is?

woods?
scale?
PUps?

what the hell?

it just looks like a variant of a single plank Les Paul Special with some funky electronics, over some classic pickups and a good bridge.

is it all the electronics that ruin this thing?

There was a great era in the 80's when they decided to make solid body versions of their famous hollowbody lines. A buddy of mine has a 335 solidbody. It's creepy but sounds amazing.

This one is pretty sweet to me although these things are collectibilies and this one will likely fetch a small mint.

Blasphemy! The slanted bridge pickup in the Nighthawk is marvelous.

quite different from yer average gibson plank. i've heard that the later runs were um, not so good, but i've only played '74 thru '76 models, so i cant say, but the ones i've played were all nice enough to take home.

mines got a random duncan in the neck, stock pup in the bridge, and the wiring switched to LP style (but still using the chicken head), so i cant really comment on the stock guitar.

sound & playability though, i've found few guitars that offer me so much satisfaction. that fretboard wear doesnt come from it not being a player

they're definitely a widebody, but they're thin as an SG, and beveled around the top edge.

if you took it out to dinner, it'd order three shots of cuervo and a beer.
