Members L6Sguy
among those three, i'd take, um, none and not that theres anything wrong with 'em (i've got an orig FL9, and had the bf-2), but theres plenty else out there that gets what i need, sonically, better. track down an Arion SFL-1, thats my suggestion, but not just cuz my rig contains one now (the sfl-1 is only temporarily filling in for my dod 640, which is out on loan). its got a much wider range of sounds/flexibility than the FL-9, and a flavor that is kinda similar, but a bit warmer (read: not as trebly); very nice stuff. more usable sounds than the bf-2. i've been through a lot of flangers, none booteek but plenty of 'classics' (orig mxr,EH,dod, ross, ibanez, etc), and the sfl-1 hangs with the best of 'em. I don't think I've ever heard one i was pretty surprised myself, but in a nutshell, my fl-9 stays boxed and the bf-2 got sold. arion has got some decent circuits, some far better sounding than the plastique enclosure would imply. do a search, theres a few fans around these parts. edit: and of course, the elec mistress & mxr, as well as the ibanez fl99, ross, and older dods, should all be given a whirl before you put yer $ down. Members Uma Floresta
I think all of those are good to great flangers, each with its unique flavor... I have the Electric Mistress, have had a BF-2 and a BF-3... someday I may get the Ibanez or the Arion, but probably not the MXR ... if I'm going to spend that much, I'll just get the Hoax! The BF-3 has a few extra modes, like Ultra, Gate/Pan and Momentary. Othewise, they're pretty much the same. Some people think The BF-2 sounds better -- I had the BF-2, sold it, then three years later got the BF-3, so I'm not sure, but if there is a difference it's subtle. Members fenderguitar
I'll second the Arion. I have it as well and it is pretty sweet. I also have the Ibanez Swell Pedal (from their 10 series) which I think is a little bit better than the Arion (more swoosh and a faster rate). Members jay3265E
I hope I made a good decision by purchasing the FL-9 from a forumite recently. I had wanted the TC Electronic Chorus/Flanger but don't have dough for it now. Maybe down the line...
